  6. 'It's more than I could have asked for' - Castrenpublished at 22:40 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    1UP Castren v Salas (F)

    Solheim CupImage source, Getty Images

Rookie Matilda Castren has just retained the Solheim Cup for Europe. She was talking to Sky Sports:

"It feels amazing. It’s just crazy. I can’t believe I made that putt. I knew it was important and we read that putt perfectly. So proud to be a part of this team.

"I was just trying to play my best. [Lizette Salas] was a tough competitor and I knew she was going to make these shots. I rolled some good putts and some of them went in!"

    How was your week?

"It’s been such a cool experience. It’s more than I could have asked for.

"The team atmosphere is so great, everyone is so supportive of one anther. The bus rides, listening to music - the team made this happen."

How different a player will this make you?

"It’s been intense amount of pressure. I was really nervous these last few holes. I learned a lot playing with Anna [Nordqvist].

"I am definitely coming out a more confident player after this week.

'"We have Suzann (Pettersen)'s photo in the lcoker room - and there's a part of me that thought I wouldnt be able to do it. The pressure made me focus a bit more."

  7. Reid extends the matchpublished at 22:40 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    Reid v Noh 1UP (17)

You just know Mel Reid is desperate not to have a loss in these singles, and she's still pulling out the fist pumps as she sends the match down 18.

That's an achievement in itself after she lost the first four holes of the match - this would be the half to end all halves if she can dig this out.

  8. Korda still fighting for a pointpublished at 22:36 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    Hull v J.Korda 2UP (16)

Jessica Korda doesn't know, or perhaps doesn't care, that the Solheim Cup has been lost as she hole sout nicely to take a two-up lead on Charley Hull as she goes in search of a singles point.

They all count for not only the final score, but also the golfers' stats - and don't think for a second that they don't care about that!

  9. Pedersen goes dormie threepublished at 22:34 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    3UP Pedersen v Kang (15)

It was quite a messy way for a Solheim Cup to be won, with Emily Pedersen making a mess of her chip before Danielle Kang went to pieces on the green.

But still, Europe will be coming home with that famous trophy and by winning it outright as well.

  10. Europe are going to win the Solheim Cuppublished at 22:32 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

How good does that leaderboard look? And with Emily Pedersen dormie three up on Danielle Kang, Europe are guaranteed another half point, so they are going to win the Solheim Cup!

  12. Castren's putt retains Solheim Cuppublished at 22:25 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    1UP Castren v Salas (F)

It was all down to the 18th for this pairing - at the start we wondered whether Match Seven would be lucky for Europe.

Lizette Salas had the better approach, but it took a nervy par putt after landing in the bunker for Matilda Castren to hole it.

It crept ever so slowly but goodness me the relief as that plops in.

That one putt, against the odds, means that Europe retain the Solheim Cup.

  13. Postpublished at 22:23 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    Hull v J.Korda 1UP (15)

Hull can only get a half on 15 so she remains one down to the older Korda sibling.

  14. Postpublished at 22:22 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    Reid v Noh 2UP (15)

There's no quit in Mel Reid as she wins the 15th to drag it back to two down with three to play.

  15. Postpublished at 22:21 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    1UP Castren A/S Salas (17)

Matilda Castren's second shot on the 18th is a difficult one from the right hand side - and it finds the left bunker. Rats.

Lizette Salas, on the other hand has a great line in. 'GO' she hollers - and she finds the front of the green. Better than sand. Any day.

Oh the nerves. Castren is quite close to the lip of the bunker as she surveys a right fried-egg of a lie.

She is nicely out and lying maybe a little over 6ft from the pin.

  16. Altomare wins 2&1published at 22:17 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    Ciganda v Altomare 2UP (17)

Brittany Altomare completes a stunning late run to complete a brilliant victory over Carlota Ciganda and all of a sudden the USA are just two points behind...

Altomare was never ahead in the match until the 16th, and when she won the 17th that made it four wins in five holes and a remarkable turnaround.

It's a first singles loss for Ciganda in the Solheim Cup.

  17. Lucky for some - Pedersen 3 Up on 13thpublished at 22:16 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    3UP Pedersen v Kang (14)

Almost under the radar while the rest of the leadboard starts leaning to the red and almost without any kind of fanfare, Pedersen birdies the par-five 13th and Danielle Kang bogeys it.

They tie the 14th, and on we go.

  18. Koerstz Madsen halves match with Ernstpublished at 22:14 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    Koerstz Madsen A/S Ernst (F)

This is nail-biting stuff. Austin Ernst misses from 10 feet for a winning birdie on the 18th.

Europe are on 13 points, just one away from the required target to retain the trophy.

  19. Khang wins 3&2published at 22:14 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    Popov v Khang 3UP (16)

Well, Popov made it interesting for a while there but the run couldn't go on - even though it probably should have as she missed a short putt to extend the match.

Fully deserved point for Khang though.

  20. Postpublished at 22:13 British Summer Time 6 September 2021

    1UP Castren A/S Salas (18)

Matilda Castren is on the 18th tee and she comfortably finds the short stuff.

Lizette Salas follows suit and this pair are off and running on the last.
