Summary

  • Belfast Giants 6-1 Guildford Flames

  1. GIANTS IN POLE POSITION FOR THIRD TITLE IN A ROWpublished at 18:48 British Summer Time 1 April 2023

The Giants have a vital two-point lead heading into tonight's game.

It means they have two bites of the cherry to become champions. Even if they lose they can still become UK champions by beating Dundee on Sunday.

That's because if the Giants and Flames finish level on points the Giants win the league based on more victories in regulation.

But that isn't on their minds. In front of a sell-out crowd at home they want to make sure tonight.

  2. IT"S THE ELITE LEAGUE TITLE SHOWDOWN LIVE FROM BELFASTpublished at 18:45 British Summer Time 1 April 2023

After 52 games the Elite League season has come down to the final weekend. A tremendous championship chase that involved four teams was reduced to the Belfast Giants and Guildford Flames last week.

The scenario is simple. The Giants need one win from their final two games to retain their champions crown. They will travel to Dundee on Sunday,

Guildford need to win both games - they are at home to Fife on Sunday - and the Giants must lose. The first step is in their own hands tonight.

The trophy is in Belfast - will it be presented to the Giants tonight or will Guildford force the decision to the final day of the season?

The Giants are looking for a 6th Elite league title which would move them ahead of Sheffield in all-time wins and it would be their third in a row which has never been done.

Guildford are looking for their first trophy since joining the Elite League. The closest they came was losing the Challenge Cup Final in 2019 in overtime to....that's right, the Giants.
