So Cardiff lost the second leg to Coventry 2-1 but went through 6-3 on aggregate and the Nottingham Panthers ended the Guildford Flames season despite losing the second leg 5-3 the Panthers went through 7-6 over the two legs.

So the play-off semi-finals on Saturday 15 April are....

Belfast Giants v Nottingham Panthers 3pm

Sheffield Steelers v Cardiff Devils 7pm

The Belfast Giants hopes of the Grand Slam are still alive but only just.

After failing to score on the powerplay it took a fantastic save from Tyler Beskorowany with 1:20 remaining to deny Jordan Cownie to preserve the win.

This wasn't a good Giants performance, they lost the game remember and although they did hit three posts the Clan came very close to causing a massive upset.

Nonetheless it's on to Nottingham for the Giants....

Giants hit a third post of the night on the powerplay but with 3:34 to go Clan get called for too many men.

Another opportunity for the Giants with the man advantage to kill the tie

Jeff Solow with a breakaway beats Tyler Beskorowany and it's game on with 12 minutes to go.

The third period is underway and Glasgow have no choice but to throw everything at the Giants which may mean some breakaway chances going the other way.

Ty Taylor needs to shut the door and give his side the chance to comeback against the league champions

A big shout out to the Quinnipiac Bobcats who won their first NCAA National title last night in overtime.

This coming at the end of a season when they had also won the Friendship Four in Belfast last November.

Just when the Giants think they are edging clear the Clan say not so quickly. Still this tie is in the balance with 20 minutes to go.

A goal Clan netminder Ty Taylor will want back. From a face-off win the shot from the blueline by Will Cullen goes through the pads of Taylor to restore the Giants lead on the night and three-goal advantage in the tie.

Big period for Glasgow - can they eat into that two goal lead for the Giants. Certainly if the Giants keep giving them powerplay chances then they certainly could.

The Giants need to raise their level of intensity a notch or two.

Meanwhile in the other two games at the end of the first period....

The perfect start for the Giants with a couple of Scott Conway goals but then the Clan took over as they got more physical and lifted the intensity and got the two goals of their own including a third powerplay goal in two nights agains the league's best penalty kill in the regular season.

After the Giants fail to convert on their first powerplay the Clan come close with the man advantage when Gabriel Chabot hits the post but that only leads to Dyson Stevenson tipping the puck into the net in the closing stages of the powerplay to tie the game on the night.
