England now face South Africa in their final Quad Series game, while unbeaten Australia play Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand.
Serena Guthrie speaking after the game: " They stepped up defensively and we knew they would. We're in enemy territory and not we didn't quite execute the gameplan like we did when we last played them.
"We're always going to miss Jo Harten in shooting circle, but we'e trying to build and it's great for Nat, Helen and Kadeen to get experience.
"We've got so many new combinations going on and I think we've done alright.
"Of course we're disappointed with the result tonight."
That's it, Australia win their Quad Series match against the England Roses.
It was a classy game of netball, full of skill and passion from both sides.
Roses still pushing hard but time is against them.
Australia have done a great job wrestling momentum back here.
Noooo! Held ball called after great pressure from Australia and they push on the advantage.
It's a five-goal lead now and it looks too much for the Roses now with less than two minutes to play,
Where was this from England in the middle two quarters?
They've stormed back but Australia are determined to keep them at bay, with this game becoming more and more physical with every pass.
Australia still ticking their own score over though
The momentum has well and truly swung back to the Roses now.
Corbin looks far more comfortable now and Agbeze and Mentor are stifling Australia much easier now.
The Diamonds are forced back but Bassett does well to find space and get the shot away.
FIVE MINUTES LEFT CLAXON
The penalties are creeping up for Australia as they start to feel the pressure building from a marauding Roses team.
Gibson, on at wing defence shows great tenacity to win a turnover and after a scrappy period of play - with Bruce taking out Guthrie - England score.
England trying to use the whole of the court but Pitman, back on at wing attack is boxed in and can't find the pass. The Roses somehow win the ball back though and score fro it.
A golden opportunity is then missed after a messy England Attack ends in Australia coming away with the ball.
The Roses need to make the most of these chances, as they miss another opportunity to consolidate a turnover
Guthrie though she had the take out of the air, over-the-top but she's called for contact. Frustrating for the England centre.
Gretel Tippett, on at GA is combining well with Bassett, not needing any time to settle into the game.
Housby under the post after a rebound..in it goes.
Corbin gets England on the board in the final quarter
England have 15 minutes to turn this one around.
Can they do it?
The Diamonds have really taken control in the last 30 minutes of the game and England are struggling to find a way to claw the scores back.
The teams are trading turnovers as Mentor gets the tip and Bruce swoops in for the steal at the other end.
Seconds to go in this quarter.
STEPH WOOD! The Aussie just steamed in out of nowhere to intercept a Guthrie pass as Tracey Neville shouts "COME ON!" from the bench.
Haythornthwaite at WA now, feeds a lovely pass to Housby, who scores a difficult chance from distance.
The game's frenetic place has calmed a little but it doesn't help England as a Housby miss is scooped up by Bruce and Corbin is called for contact.
Sloppy passes creeping into England's play now as they are trying to force their attack with the fluidity they had in the opening quarter deserting them right now.
And Australia are in no mood to give them any second chances as Watson pounces on a stray Roses pass.
Six in it now and England need to find a way to stop the rot, and quickly.
Roses changes: Guscoth to WD, Ambeze comes on at GD. The captain makes an instant impact with a turnover.
The introduction of Liz Watson for the Diamonds was the difference in that second quarter and she's continued her form in the second half.
Watson is combining will with Kelsey Browne and Gabi Simpson and England will need to combat that trio to make inroads on the score.
Australia are threatening to run away with the score here but England are given a sniff to get back into it.
They can't take advantage though as Guscoth spills the ball after juggling it in the air. A real shame after such hard work from England.
Jo Weston is warned for 'intimidation'
In the first five minutes of this quarter, Australia are winning 5-3.
Australia have started the third period strongly, buoyed by sterling work from Bruce in defence.
England just looking to settle in this opening phase of the second half but another miss from Corbin hands the Diamonds the initiative.
Watson v Guthrie is sprucing up nicely in the centre court.
England will want to improve their shooting percentage.
It stands at 77% after the first half, which is pretty low for international standard and needs to creep up to the mid-80s.
What a pulsating first half that was. The Diamonds get the spoils after that comeback quarter but the Roses still have plenty more to give and this one is finely poised.
England's Chelsea Pitman speaking at half time: "We just a bit of change in the attack. We need to keep letting the ball go.The options are there and there's nothing really separating us at the moment."
