"It's because of the heat on days like this and the amount of ground the players are covering that county squads are training five nights a week. There are lulls in the game because the players are fairly exhausted already."
No scores for nearly 10 minutes. Play has become rather pedestrian or in modern parlance, 'lateral'.
The former Monaghan All-Star appears to be third-man tackled by Michael Murphy and ends up face down on the ground. After play is stopped, there is a bit of pushing and shoving between the players but referee Coldrick takes no action.
Vinny Corey is doing his job for Monaghan. Donegal's talisman and skipper Murphy has barely touched the ball to date in this game.
Conor McManus levels with a 21-metre free but it could have been worse for Donegal as keeper Paul Durcan made a great save to deny Dermot Malone's goal chance before handling the ball on the ground.
Donegal half-back Frank McGlynn is booked after a challenge on Vinny Corey but Conor McManus missed the resulting Monaghan free. The holders still 0-3 to 0-2 ahead.

"Vinny Corey will definitely pick up Michael Murphy."
Paddy Bradley

"I expect Owen Lennon to pick up Neil Gallagher. Mark McHugh will move back to his customary sweeper position for Donegal."

"David Coldrick is one of the best referees in the game but he does award a lot of frees. Discipline is going to be important."
Tiernan Flanagan's goal late in the first half helped Derry clinch a 13th Ulster Minor Football title as they edged out Cavan 1-11 to 0-11 in the Clones curtain-raiser.
Cavan did have a big penalty shout turned down in the second half but Derry were the better side and deserved their victory.
