The late William Dunlop was one of the finest exponents of racing at the Ulster Grand Prix of recent decades.

Among his seven wins at the event was a stunning success in the Supersport class in 2013 when the Ballymoney rider edged out Bruce Anstey,

William remains fondly remembered for his road racing ability, and also for his likeable laid back personality, by road race fans across the world.

  4. Dundrod is the ultimate fast circuit - Lougherpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 8 August 2020

    Quote Message

I have always enjoyed fast flowing circuits and the Ulster is the ultimate in that to me. The first time I went it was 1985 and I really enjoyed it and I kept enjoying it every year. Even towards the end of my career when I was not enjoying so much of the riding, the Ulster was still one I really enjoyed.

Ian Lougher has ridden a variety of machinery for a variety of maunufacturers at the Ulster Grand Prix during a road racing career spanning four decades.

Here he is pictured on a Manton Racing Honda Supersport in 2003.

If the Welshman continues to throw his leg over a bike in the 2020s that will become five decades...

  6. Lougher not at all 'Lucky'published at 11:21 British Summer Time 8 August 2020

He may have been nicknamed 'Lucky Lougher' in some quarters but there was nothing fortunate about Welshman Ian Lougher's distinguished Ulster Grand Prix career which yielded 18 wins.

Such was the impact made by Lougher that the Budore section of the course on the run-up to Joey's Windmill was re-named 'Lougher's' in honour of his achievements.

The 57-year-old is now based in Dromore, County Down, so we in Northern Ireland are pretty much claiming us as one of our own now.....

His hat-trick in 2002 was one of his highlights - a feat he repeated in 2005 with another treble.

  10. Great going from Guypublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 8 August 2020

While Guy Martin may be regarded as one of the best riders never to have won a race at the Isle of Man TT, the Dundrod course proved to be a much more happy hunting ground for the Lincolnshire man as he chalked up 11 successes at the Ulster Grand Prix.

The highlight was his four-timer at the 2006 meeting in the colours of Alastair Flanagan's AIM Yamaha outfit.

Unfortunately his big Superbike crash at Ireland's Corner during Thursday racing at the 2015 Ulster GP marked the end of his career as a top-flight road racer competing at the sharp end.

Anyone seen or heard what Guy is up to lately?...

The Dundrod circuit is one of the best in the world, I don't know any rider that doesn't love racing in Dundrod. With the tradition of the circuit it's just a real shame to see that it has turned into the mess that it has, hopefully there is a body out there that can step in. If I was to get back on my bike and race again, Dundrod is definitely one of the circuits that I would have a go at.

His Supersport triumph at the 2005 Ulster GP on an MSS Kawasaki was among his finest.
