The British start wasn't too bad, they got out OK but they seemed to lose a lot of ground over the first 100 metres and started to claw it back a bit in the second 250 metres.

Hockey - Women's gold medal match, 21:00 BST, BBC One.

Great Britain's women's hockey team are just one match away from winning Olympic gold.

In Stevie G style, the team huddled at the conclusion of their semi-final and said to each other, "one more!".

Britain's goalkeeper Maddie Hinch said, "waking up the morning after out semi final, the idea of already having a medal secured didn't even cross my mind. After every game we've had the same process, the same plan, and that'll be the same going into the final".

They are not Stevie G...They are Team GB and they take on defending champions the Netherlands in the Olympic final at 21:00 BST, live on BBC One.

    What a twisted taekwondo web.

Lutalo Muhammad won a bronze medal at London 2012 for Great Britain, but only after he controversially won the selection nod ahead of domestic rival and world number one in the -80kg weight division Aaron Cook.

Muhammad got hate mail about the decision. Cook cut his ties with Great Britain in protest.

Four years later and both are back, with Cook - who is boyfriend to Muhammad's team-mate Bianca Walkden - representing Moldova after switching nationalities.

The draw means that if they are to meet in Rio it will be in the final. But what a fight it would be.

“We are not friends,” Muhammad, the fifth seed, said.

“There’s always been fireworks when we fight, it’s always exciting, it’s the fight the crowd wants to see. It’s probably the biggest rivalry in taekwondo.

"Cook is a world-class athlete, he’s always dangerous. Do I think I’m better than him? Absolutely."

Yesterday, Great Britain's Liam Phillips had to withdraw from the quarter-finals of the Olympic BMX after a heavy fall.

He has since released a message to reassure people he is okay, but has expressed his devastation at the accident.

He has also thanked the team and his girlfriend, fellow cyclist Jess Varnish, who have been his support network throughout.

"I'm not even going to try to some up how I feel right now. I'm beyond devastated and will be for some time I'm sure.

"62 days ago, I smashed my left collarbone into 5 pieces. With the help of an unbelievable group of people & some pretty hard yards, I got onto the start gate in the best shape possible yesterday.

"It wasn't the fairy tale ending I'd hoped for (far from it) but that small group of people at least gave me the opportunity to give it a go.

"That group includes some pretty special humans who I'm thankful to have in my corner".

Kyrgyz long-distance runner Daria Maslova has criticised the organisers of this year's Olympics after returning from the competition, Kyrgyz news agency 24.kg reports.

According to Maslova, after completing the 24th of 25 laps of the 10,000m race, referees stopped several participants and told them the race was over.

"I was in 12th place at the time," she said. "I stood there for about 10 seconds and noticed that my competitors were still running. I understood that I had one more lap to complete, and ran on. I managed to outrun three of them, but didn't have enough time for the others. Complete chaos."
