The men's 100m in contrast to the women, the United States are probably going to be the strongest country.

Ronnie Baker didn't have the best start but it wasn't needed in this circumstance. He has so much control that he just eases away from everyone and makes it through safely.

Nilpa Shah: Gutted for Dina. Well done to Neita.

Samuel: What a shame about Asher-Smith. Gutted for her. But good luck to Daryll Neita in the final.

Abdullahi Mohamed: Feel gutted for Dina Asher-Smith tbh.

The House of Hammer: Well done Daryll Neita, a superb effort.

'Daryll Neita has made a marked change'published at 11:47 British Summer Time 31 July 2021

    Women's 100m semi-finals

    Jeanette Kwakye
Former British 100m champion on BBC TV

This is the Olympics, when you turn up, you have to be 100 percent ready. We could all see the Asher-Smith we know wasn't quite clicking today and she had to pull out her best performance today to make the final.

We know she is a championship performer so that kind of performance for us is some kind of anomaly from where we know she can be.

But lets look at Daryll Neita, who has made a marked change clearly in her mindset, her physicality and her ability to turn up at a championship and say 'why not?'

2008 I was in that final with [Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce] and she span us all around, and she is doing the same thing again here, however many years later.

It could be a clean sweep for Jamaica, but the two Swiss athletes who have made it into the final could mix it up along with Daryll, it is a competitive 100m final.

FT: Spain 5-2 Ivory Coastpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 31 July 2021

    Men's football quarter-finals

Well after normal time, it felt like it was anyone's game, but after he arrived on the pitch, it was Rafa Mir's and no one else's...

The Wolves striker spent just over half an hour on the field but managed to score a hat-trick in that time, sending Spain through to the semi-final, guaranteeing the side an Olympic medal.

Keeping an eye on the other two quarter-finals, we can tell you Brazil have gone one up against Egypt, but it's still 0-0 between Japan and New Zealand with only minutes to go. Looks like this one is going to extra time too...

    Men's 100m heats

It's the turn of the men on the track now. The men's 100m heats are about to get under way.

GB is well represented, with Zharnel Hughes, Reece Prescod and CJ Ujah all bidding for a spot in the semi-finals.

American Trayvon Bromell is the hot favourite for this title.

    Women's featherweight semi-finals

Karriss Artingstall maintains the momentum from the second round. Sena Irie is fading after her positive start.

I think the Briton's done enough to show the judges she deserves a spot in the final.

But she hasn't... her Japanese opponent edges it for a 3-2 split decision win. Agonising for the 26-year-old from Macclesfield, but at least she'll return home with a bronze medal.

    Women's 100m semi-finals

    Christine Ohuruogu
Former 400m Olympic gold medallist on BBC Radio 5 Live

We are so proud for Daryll, I spoke to her before she went to Tokyo and she said she had had to work hard to turn her mind around - now she has found a place where she is very happy and performing.

Credit to her, she has flown under the radar. She kept a very clinical race and performed very well under the circumstances.

At least we have a Brit in the final, which we haven't had since 2008. That is something we should get behind and celebrate.

"I know I have so much more, I know how good I am and that didn't show half what I am capable of."

    Michael Johnson
Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC TV

You're in a situation where you thinking who would you rather have in the final: Dina or Daryll?

It's a difficult choice but obviously with Dina being a terrific athlete, world champion... but Daryll's got the momentum.

A PB yesterday and holding her own in the semi-finals - that was a tight race for the finish - and that's where you want that championship experience to come through.

Karriss Artingstall steps it up in the second round. It's more aggressive from the British boxer and she's upped the tempo.

That's enough to level it up. It's anyone's this, heading into the last three minutes. Who wants it more?

Daryll Neita did get out very well, you are comparing her to the best starter in women's athletics in Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, she just controlled that race from gun to tape, always really focused, she never really drifts, always head down and if she can switch down, she will do.

Yanni Mac: Take a look at Dina’s start again. She just drags her right foot slightly on about her third stride, which probably explains why she didn’t get ahead of Del Ponte from the start.

Matthew Knights: Injury clearly affecting Dina, you have to worry for the 200m now imo.

Dennis Ethan: Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce v Elaine Thompson is going to be a thriller in the 100m Final later today.

Teahna Daniels of the US is third in a PB of 10.98.

That's quicker than Dina Asher-Smith's time, and so Asher-Smith WILL NOT be in the 100m final.

But there will be a Brit on that start line. Daryll Neita takes the second fastest loser spot and she's absolutely delighted!
