So much to talk about from the first half. The important thing is that St Helens lead 9-8 thanks to that late drop-goal by Luke Walsh. How important will that prove to be at the end of the match?

James Roby's sensational opening score and two kicks from Walsh gave Saints, the defending champions, an 8-0 lead.

Back came with Leeds with a Zak Hardaker try and two Kevin Sinfield goals.

Walsh's one-pointer separates the sides. Still all to play for.

  4. DROP-GOAL (Walsh)published at 40 mins

    Leeds Rhinos 8-9 St Helens

St Helens almost get a second score of the match, as Mark Percival gets support from Tommy Makinson, but the Saints winger is tackled five metres out.

With the clock ticking down, Luke Walsh lands a one-pointer right at the end of the first half to give Saints the lead at half-time.

Makinson struggles to his feet - having recently recovered from a broken leg, there will be some anxious glances in his direction to make sure he'll be fine to resume in the second half.

    Leeds Rhinos 8-8 St Helens

A painful moment for St Helens captain Jon Wilkin, who catches a stray boot to the face while down on the ground. Didn't look like it was intentional by Adam Cuthbertson.

Play continues and Leeds knock on, giving Saints a scrum 20 metres out.

Then James Roby knocks on at the play-the-ball and Leeds have it back.

These two have produced some magical contests over the years and this one is shaping up to be another.

We've had almost everything - great tries, missed opportunities, huge intensity of tackling - and we're not at half-time yet.

James Roby goes for a 40-20 kick but the St Helens man is just, just, just the wrong side of the 20-metre line. Leeds scrum 21 metres from their own line.

Another superb break by Joel Moon gets Leeds motoring forward into the St Helens half. Somehow the visitors survive as Leeds make a mess of a grubber kick.

A big mix-up in the St Helens defence gives Leeds a repeat set, as two Saints players fail to gather a kick cleanly.

The Rhinos come forward again and James Roby is penalised for interference at the play-the-ball.

Kevin Sinfield bisects the uprights and we're back level again.

That will settle the nerves, they will be happy. What I like this week, which Leeds didn't do much last week, is produce more offloads. This is the type of rugby they have made so successful this season. They chance their arm and back their skill.

Leeds go in search of a quick-fire second try but Saints winger Adam Swift reads the kick through and gathers safely.

Hardly a moment to catch your breath here.

You can't keep James Roby out of this game. The St Helens hooker puts in a huge hit on Mitch Garbutt and the Leeds prop spills the ball, giving Saints an attacking scrum.

And now St Helens go close! Tommy Makinson breaks down the right wing and his pass towards Mark Percival 10 metres out finds the retreating Danny McGuire instead of his own team-mate.

A big opportunity missed for Leeds. A big, big moment.

Joel Moon's break took the hosts from inside their own half and created numbers out wide on the right.

Tom Briscoe had the try line at his mercy but dropped the ball as he went to put it down over the line.

    Leeds still scoreless.
