    St Helens 0-4 Leeds

Leeds are finding some quick ball now, notably through Matt Parcell's smarts around the ruck, and forcing Saints back.

Thrilling break involving Parcell, Tom Briscoe and Kallum Watkins was just about stopped.

Leeds can't make the last tackle play count. Another chip kick? And then Jonny Lomax knocks on to put the pressure back on Saints. This game is 100 mph.

    St Helens 0-4 Leeds

Fair play to Tommy Makinson, he gathered a last-tackle crossfielder on the full and Saints are up and away from danger.

Some strength in depth in that Saints side, Alex Walmsley and James Roby watching from the bench.

Adam Swift is so close to grounding a kick on the last, but the ball squirms from his grasp, almost over the line. Let-off for Rhinos.

    St Helens 0-4 Leeds

Argh! Adam Swift can't take in a Rob Burrow teaser - slides straight through his arms - and Leeds are poised again right in Saints dangerzone.

Big test of Saints defensive mettle again off that knock-on by Swift.

"I love watching Joel Moon play - when he gets the ball in hand there's always problems.

"The way Leeds have played in the last five minutes is like the Leeds of old. If they can keep the consistency in the outside backs they'll challenge most teams this season."

  5. try

    TRY (Moon)published at 20 mins

    St Helens 0-4 Leeds

Joel Moon has crossed for the first try of the 2017 season, and it's gone Leeds way.

Rob Burrow pushed the ball left to Carl Ablett who delayed his pass long enough to find the Australian centre on the burst - who had the strength to work his way across the stripe.

Conversion was missed. Leeds in front.

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

Bit lateral from Leeds. Saints just form a red and white wall and the Rhinos are shifting flat from one side to the other.

That said, Leeds get a scrum and a quick short-side play almost gets Jamie Jones-Buchanan in... close to the line!

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

Sights like this warm my heart. Big crowd, big event, big blokes bashing each other for 80 minutes.

It's good to be back indeed.

Meanwhile, Leeds have a scrum on the Saints 40... decent position.

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

Defences on top at the moment. Some big defensive plays on the last from both teams.

However, you'd like to see a bit more invention on the last close to the line. We've had a couple of dinks to the corner but nothing in behind yet.

You'd like to think grubbers will be useful? It's been high-octane so far. Savage pace.

  9. Postpublished at 13 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

St Helens tried to hammer Leeds down the left edge but the visitors, in an all-blue kit tonight, catch them out and Carl Ablett finishes the set off with a huge tackle.

Penalty follows on Leeds' set and they are deep in Saints territory...

Both teams have had a dabble now at each others line, and neither have been able to prise their way through.

Enjoying the physical battle between the front-rows, you can tell they've had a winter somewhat wrapped in cotton wool for the big kick-off. It's been a long time between tackles!

  11. Postpublished at 10 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

St Helens got a good testing out there in the defensive area - Leeds pressed for repeat sets but didn't get a way through.

Tap on the 20 is now a zero tackle under new laws, we'll refresh those at half-time.

  12. Postpublished at 8 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

Differential penalties are a rarity, awarded at scrums. Can't kick for goal, have to play it. Here come Leeds inside the 10...

Another Leeds penalty... another set of six after a shove by Luke Douglas.

"Daniel Richardson looks like Sean Long.

"I don't know if he plays like him, I've only seen him for five minutes, but he has the look and demeanour."

Big guy to be likened to. No pressure, eh Brian?

  14. Postpublished at 6 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

Liam Sutcliffe is getting patched up early on and that's forced a stoppage.

Leeds have a scrum midway inside the Saints half after a knock-on bringing the ball out of yardage. That scrum becomes a penalty.

First cries of 'Yorkshire' from the stands... it's hotting up!

  15. Postpublished at 5 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

Dom Peyroux was held up off a great short ball from Daniel Richardson, skipped around a couple of challenges but then stopped short. Saints close to the first try of the season!

Saints shifted left but Leeds defence held firm on the last. Some nice football from the home side.

  16. Postpublished at 3 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

Saints gave away the ball from a knock-on in the corresponding set. Loose start from both teams.

However, Saints again back in possession, and win a penalty. Cumbrian tussle between Brad Singleton and Kyle Amor results in a penalty and a chance to press the Rhinos line again.

  17. Postpublished at 1 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

Leeds cough up a knock-on in the first set of the game. Saints have a chance to strike. Nerves perhaps?

  18. Kick-offpublished at 0 mins

    St Helens 0-0 Leeds

Phil Bentham draws on his whistle and the 2017 season is under way.

Enjoy, everyone. Leeds get ball off the kick-off.

  19. Big pressure on young shoulderspublished at 20:01 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2017

St Helens v Leeds (20:00 GMT)

Daniel Richardson is the man St Helens are looking to, in order to steer them round the pitch.

The 20-year-old will partner Theo Fages in the halves with Matty Smith out.

Teams are out... hooter's gone. We're nearly there.
