    FT: Wigan 29-18 St Helens

What a game. Saints, despite losing Kyle Amor early on in the game to a red card, kept up the fight against Wigan until midway in the second half when they pulled away.

Whether it was fatigue or Wigan's extra man that told, there is much to be proud of particularly in the debut of Regan Grace who looked at home on the wing.

The interim coaching team of Jamahl Lolesi, Sean Long and Derek Traynor have done themselves proud after the departure of Keiron Cunningham.

Two tries for Joe Burgess and Liam Marshall and a Liam Farrell score ensure that Wigan come away with the two points to end their losing run.

St Helens were extremely brave, battling away with tries from Morgan Knowles, debutant Regan Grace and Tommy Makinson.

However, the Warriors lived up to their name, showing their mettle to record the win. What a thrilling derby.

Saints knock on in contact. They have to force the issue and that is where errors are made.

Wigan happy to slow it down at the scrum, in midfield.

Saints high-tackle off the scrum play hands initiative to Wigan. Penalty.

Saints lifted by the try are making metres and finding spaces. Testing Matty Smith kick had Wigan scrambling but the home team come up with the ball.

    Great finish to this game.

TRY (Makinson, con Percival)published at 72 mins

What a passage of play by Saints. Chucking the ball about left to right then left and then finding a gap for Tommy Makinson to scream through.

    Chink of light for Saints.

    Freaky passage of play there.

Saints hacked the ball on after Matty Smith's kick was fumbled by Morgan Escare. Got a drop-out off it.

Chance to mount the late fightback? Too late for me.

What I love about George Williams is he plays in Wigan's structures, which can be very rigid, extremely well.

But he also has a touch of ingenuity and off-the-cuff as was shown there.

Morgan Escare converted that last try by the way. 17-point lead now.

    TRY (Burgess)published at 66 mins

    Wigan 27-12 St Helens

They have hit their stride now.

Joe Burgess gets his second, tracking a clip over the top from George Williams to slide in and catch on the full to score.

Saints deflated, Wigan elated. Williams the fulcrum, Burgess the finisher.

Tommy Makinson lies on the turf after being dragged into the in-goal area. Saints are blowing now.

Another drop-out. Another marauding attack by Wigan to come.

It's the Wigan fans you can hear going through their songbook in the fans. The party starts here for them.

  14. try

    TRY (Marshall)published at 62 mins

    Wigan 23-12 St Helens

If this was a boxing match, then that is the knock-out combo from Wigan.

Liam Farrell's try the left hook, Liam Marshall's score - took to mid-air after a flying left-wing break - is the uppercut.

Great break, great finish. Can't see Saints getting off the canvas now. How did he squeeze it in?

  15. TRY REVIEWpublished at 62 mins

    Wigan 19-12 St Helens

Liam Marshall goes airborne after a flying move down the right, Farrell to Burgess to Marshall... is that the gamebreaker?

  16. try

    TRY (Farrell)published at 60 mins

    Wigan 19-12 St Helens

Just as Saints feel optimism, it's punctured by Liam Farrell.

Wigan tried to crash through on the right off the scrum, but when the ball slides left Saints can't get there and Farrell just coasts through. Lovely finish.

Regan Grace has had a stellar debut but he will feel so hurt, it was his error that led to it. Poor lad, to quote Eddie Waring.

The speed of Regan Grace over that five metres, he left his wing man as if he was standing still.

St Helens created an overlap with 12 men and they are still in this.

Wigan are holding territory but if St Helens can get out this game is still alive.

    Wigan 15-12 St Helens

Magnificent 'at the last', 'defender in the eyeline' stuff from Saints there. Regan Grace touching down beautifully.

However, his error off the restart has given Wigan a scrum now. 10 away...

  19. try

    TRY (Grace)published at 57 mins

    Wigan 15-12 St Helens

Wigan had jammed in and Saints worked the ball wide to the left with some really hard-to-execute late passes and Regan Grace flew in at the corner to touch the ball down.

    WHAT A DEBUT. SENSATIONAL.
