The All-Stars, made up of players from overseas featuring in Super League, beat England in Wane's long-awaited first game in charge last year and are coached by Wigan legend Ellery Hanley.

Seven Super League clubs are represented in their starting 13, which will be led by Hull Kingston Rovers centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall.

England are missing some of their star names this weekend because of injury and, in the case of the NRL-based players, unavailability.

And not everyone selected for the clash with the All Stars is in the form that head coach Shaun Wane would like. That includes half-back George Williams who has been part of an under-performing Warrington side this year.

But Wane says he had no hesitation in picking him:

"George can play a lot better than he is doing, no question. But I know what George can do and with us he has a free rein," he said.

"It gives him a week away from the Warrington camp. That will rejuvenate him and he will go back in there a better player, so it's a win-win for both club and country."

England head coach Craig Richards tells Sky Sports: "France are improving, they are a big and strong side and I thought it was a fantastic test for my players.

"We defended our line like it meant something and a team that can do that can go on and do things.

"Some of our shape was fantastic considering we had some debutants, we just have to understand each other a little bit more.

"Yes, there's room for improvement because we're striving to be perfect."
