Hull KR take on Wigan Warriors in tomorrow's second men's Challenge Cup semi-final shortly after Wigan face Leeds in the second women's Challenge Cup semi-final.

It's an important day for Wigan in the aftermath of owner Ian Lenagan announcing he would be stepping down from his role at the end of the season.

"Ian Lenagan will be remembered as one of the greatest leaders in the history of the club and rightly so," men's boss Matt Peet told BBC Radio Manchester.

"I think everyone understands how much he has committed to the club financially, obviously.

"But in terms of emotion and dedication of his, and his family's, life, I think it would be fitting if we could get him to at least one more final and we might as well take this opportunity this week to try and do it."

Leigh Leopards made plenty of signings before the start of the season but they have gelled together and put together an impressive run of formImage source, Rex Features

Leigh come into today's tie off the back of a stunning run of form, having lost just once in their past 13 games in all competitions.

That solitary loss came against Super League leaders Catalans Dragons on 24 June, while coach Adrian Lam has already masterminded a defeat of St Helens this season, when they beat them 20-12 in the early stages of the 2023 campaign.

"As great as the dream is about being 80 minutes away from the final, our whole focus has got to be tackle by tackle, set by set," Lam told BBC Radio Manchester.

"Our focus is going to be making sure that we play each set out and not get too far ahead of ourselves.

"I know that if we turn up here and we give our absolute best, we will give ourselves every chance."

  6. Saints reach final with dramatic win v Yorkpublished at 14:13 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

FT: St Helens 17-16 York Valkyrie

Some cracking late drama in today's earlier Women's Challenge Cup semi-final.

Faye Gaskin's drop-goal with 30 seconds remaining booked St Helens a historic trip to Wembley as they narrowly beat York 17-16.

York had levelled through a Tara Stanley penalty with eight minutes to go, the same player then missing a drop-goal attempt of her own.

A see-saw encounter in Warrington ended with Saints securing their place in the first final to be held at the stadium.

Tries from Tamzin Renouf, Stanley and Sinead Peach put York up at the break.

Six-times winners Saints had led three times in a tight encounter through tries from Shona Hoyle, Luci McColm and Tara Jones before Gaskin clinched victory in a dramatic finish.

  7. No complacency from Leeds ahead of Wigan tiepublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

Leeds and Wigan face off in tomorrow's Women's Challenge Cup semi-final, with the Rhinos showing some impressive form heading into the tie.

Leeds, winners in 2019, beat Wigan 52-0 prior to drawing with York last weekend.

The two sides also recently met in the final of the Nines competition, with Leeds winning on that occasion.

However, no complacency will be allowed by Leeds, according to England utility back Caitlin Beevers.

"As a group we've made sure that's out of the pipeline," Beevers told BBC Radio Leeds.

"We don't consider that, we don't look at past results because each game is a new one.

"They've got some players coming back and so do we, so it's going to be a totally different game at a fantastic stadium in front of a big crowd."

  8. 'Leigh's momentum makes them dangerous'published at 14:07 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

St Helens have dominated the domestic game in the northern hemisphere for the past four seasons, under Justin Holbrook and then Kristian Woolf, but have had a mixed 2023 under Paul Wellens.

Wellens began his tenure as Saints boss with a stunning World Club Challenge win over NRL premiers Penrith Panthers at the beginning of the season, but his side have suffered from inconsistent form ever since.

They remain in the play-off picture but must beat the in-form Leopards if they are to return to Wembley for the first time since 2021 and win a 14th Challenge Cup.

"They [Leigh] are a team with some momentum behind them which makes them dangerous," Wellens told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"It's a credit to them, the way they have handled the step up to Super League, and got results off the back of it."

  9. Leigh need 'another level' to beat Saintspublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 22 July 2023

Leigh v St Helens (14:30 BST)

Beating St Helens to reach the Challenge Cup final is a tough task for any team given their recent dynasty.

Newly promoted Leigh Leopards have enjoyed a hugely successful return to the top flight this season and are currently second in Super League, above reigning champions Saints.

But boss Adrian Lam knows it will take something special to win today.

"We're 80 minutes away from Wembley, which is a dream," Lam told BBC Radio Manchester.

"But then you have to throw in the fact that we've got to beat the world champions. This is another level, but it's something I'm looking forward to."

    80 minutes from Wembley.

80 minutes from a first Challenge Cup final for over half a century?

Or 80 minutes away from more silverware?

St Helens, one of the most formidable sides of the Super League era, stand in Leigh Leopards' way as the newly promoted side look to continue their impressive 2023 campaign.

    Kick-off's coming soon.

  11. Challenge Cup: Alex Walmsley and St Helens ready for Leigh semi-final 'bell-ringer'published at 16:01 British Summer Time 21 July 2023

    Dave Woods
    BBC Rugby League correspondent

Reputation will count for nothing when St Helens meet Leigh in Saturday's Challenge Cup semi-final.

Saints may have won four Grand Finals in a row and be the reigning world champions, but prop Alex Walmsley says none of that will matter for 80 minutes against one of the form sides of this year's Super League.

"If we're not at our very best then we're not going to come up with the spoils," Walmsley told the 5 Live Rugby League podcast.

"Nothing is ever given, nothing is ever certain.

"And, we're coming up against a side who have been phenomenal."
