Hull KR keen to show they belong in top four

Hull KR can show they belong in the Super League play-offs in Saturday's semi-final at Wigan Warriors, according to head coach Willie Peters.

Peters, who played in the 2000 Grand Final for Wigan, has already steered the Robins to a Challenge Cup final.

The Robins are 80 minutes away from a first Grand Final in their history, against a Warriors club with five summer-era wins.

"I think it's exciting," Peters told BBC Radio Humberside.

"It's a great opportunity, Wigan are there, it's no fluke they won the League Leaders' [Shield] because of what they've done year in year in out, and Saints are the same, they get their culture right and bring in the right players.

"We want to be a top-four club year in year out and we've been so this year, we deserve to be there. To go to Wigan, we've beaten every team in the competition bar Warrington. We need to show our best."

Wigan lost to Hull KR their Challenge Cup semi-final meeting, but have picked themselves up from that golden-point disappointment to pick up the second piece of silverware for the season in the League Leaders' Shield.

Jake Wardle and Bevan French both made the Super League Dream Team, while French has been nominated for the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel and Matt Peet for coach of the year.

While that trophy and the individual awards are rewards for consistency, Peet knows that the big prize - the Grand Final trophy - is what will really count as they chase a 23rd all-time title.

"It's another opportunity to have a week working together, be involved in such a prestigious occasion - and that's what you plan for in pre-season," Peet told BBC Radio Manchester.

"It's important what it means to us, we talk about that a lot but Hull KR are very motivated as well.

"We'd love to get there for our fans and there are so many reasons that motivate us."

While this match has a break for half-time, it is worth pointing out that this is the first semi-final.

Tomorrow winners of the League Leaders' Shield, Wigan Warriors face Challenge Cup runners-up Hull KR in the second semi-final.
