England captain Jack Welsby, speaking on BBC One:

"I'm very humbled by it [to be named captain in George Williams' absence] and very excited was the main thing.

"When Shaun Wane pulled me for a chat in the week, it was the last thing I was expecting, I just thought he was going to tell me where I was going to be playing or if I was playing. I've got such a good pack of lads in there, they helped me through it.

"We were expecting them to come through the front door and they moved the ball pretty well on us. We stuck in there, got in at 12-12 and we knew if we stayed in the grind we'd get them at the back end."

The first Tom Johnstone try came off the back of a pass from Jack Welsby which had to be perfect - and everything was. That's as good as it gets.

Johnstone's second try came from being organised and connected in defence. They had patience and picked the intercept.

England coach Shaun Wane, speaking to BBC One:

"We did some good things for short periods but not for long enough. We can do a lot better than that and I'm sure their coach has said the same about them.

"I know what the players are capable of, I don't say that flippanlty, I genuinely know they will improve.

"We'll do a review tomorrow, they'll be better and we need to improve as well."

DeanC: What a wonderful interview from Mikey Lewis. Showing emotion like that just shows how much it means to him to play for his country

James: Good win, decent performance but we can also be a lot better. Lewis & Smith worked reasonably well. Attack a little off but thought second rows didn’t offer too much today.

An emotional England debutant Mikey Lewis, speaking to BBC One:

"Words can't describe how I feel at the moment. I loved every second of that. The whole week, when I got told I was going to make my debut this week, I've enjoyed every moment.

"It's massive for me and my family, if you'd have said at the start of the year that I was going to make my England debut I would have laughed at you. We'll enjoy this now, watch the video and be ready to go again next week.

"It's a big step up but I've come a long way this year and I feel like I was ready for that moment. I'm just immensely proud to get the win, Tonga have got some unreal players and to get the win is massive for us."

"The forwards were outstanding in the first 20, getting over the top of them and trying to control a big quality pack and they did the job today.

"The last few years, it's all I've been working for to put this jersey on, it means everything to me."
