  3. Warriors 'need to be brutal'published at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2019

    Saracens v Glasgow (13:00)

Glasgow head coach Dave Rennie has made it crystal clear what is required from his side - who lost 13-3 in the return fixture, but competed well up front - if they are to get any joy in north London.

"We are going to have to be brutal," says the New Zealander. "It is going to be a really physical encounter and we need to be sharp.

"You don't get many opportunities against a side like Saracens so we are going to have to take them."

  4. Late team news - Farrell out for Saracenspublished at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2019

    Saracens v Glasgow (13:00)

Some significant late team news, with Saracens fly-half Owen Farrell withdrawn from today's game with a wrist injury.

Farrell is having a minor surgical procedure today, with Sarries boss Mark McCall saying the recovery period is 7 to 10 days.

England face Ireland in Dublin in their Six Nations opener a fortnight today, so Farrell should - should - be fit for that.

As for today, Alex Goode moves from full-back to fly-half for Sarries, with Wales' Liam Williams switched to 15, and David Strettle coming in on the wing.

  5. What's the scenario?published at 12:36 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2019

    Saracens v Glasgow (13:00)

With Edinburgh beating Montpellier at Murrayfield last night, Glasgow have joined Saracens in already sealing qualification for the last eight.

A Saracens win today would see them finish as top seeds in the quarter-finals, and could well mean them hosting Glasgow, who could finish eighth seeds, again in the last eight.

Motivation enough you'd think for Warriors, who were beaten 38-13 at Allianz Park at the same stage two years ago, the only previous occasion they have reached the quarter-finals.

With qualification secure, for Glasgow to finish top their most likely means of doing so will be to win with a bonus point and deny Saracens a losing bonus point.

The other scenario would require Warriors to win by more than 10 points (Saracens won the return fixture 13-3 at Scotstoun), so they both finish on 23 points, and have the same number of match points from their two games (four).

But the next criteria to determine the higher-ranked team is best aggregate points difference from the pool stage. Saracens start off with +85, and Glasgow +47, so Warriors would need to win by at least 20 points.

    All clear?

  6. Shoot-out for top spot in Pool Threepublished at 12:32 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2019

    Saracens v Glasgow (13:00)

Afternoon all. Calmed down from the excitement of last night yet?

From a Scottish perspective, it was a historic one, with Edinburgh's win over Montpellier guaranteeing Scotland two teams in the quarter-finals of Europe's elite club competition for the first time.

Glasgow are now guaranteed to be at least one of the three best runenrs-up, and still have a shot - a long one, admittedly - of denying Saracens top spot and a home quarter-final.

The English champions, who qualified last week after winning in Lyon, are unlikely to ease up with the carrot of finishing top seeds - and possibly hosting Glasgow again in the quarter-finals - in front of them.
