The English side, who signed Scotland full-back Stuart Hogg this summer, kick off away to La Rochelle in about five minutes.

Sale will look to get their campaign off the mark at home to the French.

Hopefully all the games have a finish as breathless as the fans witnessed at Scotstoun today.

Glasgow Warriors head coach Dave Rennie has mixed emotions about the victory, describing it as "frustrating".

"We put ourselves in a lot of pressure in the second half," he tells BBC Radio Scotland. "We kicked and controlled things better in the first half.

"I thought the first half was excellent. We carried well and had quick ball.

"We are happy. We defended well. We dominated enough of the ball to be rewarded, but Sale are a very good side and our control was not where it needs to be.

"If you had given me that score before the game, I would have taken that."

What a thrilling finish to a game that was enthralling rather than a classic.

It was so one-sided in the first half and Glasgow should have been further ahead than they were thanks to a couple of Adam Hastings penalties and a DTH van der Merwe try.

Visiting boss Steve Diamond brought on some big hitters shortly after the break and it turned the game in Sale's favour.

But it was Glasgow who held on to secure a fine win at the start of their Champions Cup campaign.
