    Dragons 0-0 Scarlets

Wales back-rower Aaron Wainwright is making his 50th appearance for Dragons and has a late change of jersey as he packs down at number eight rather than blindside flanker.

So Harrison Keddie is lining up at flanker and wears six.

  6. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Dragons 0-0 Scarlets

Dragons are the first to attack off turnover ball. A lively start from Nick Tompkins but the ball is eventually knocked forward in the Scarlets' 22. Similar story to last week so far.

  7. Scarlets still in the huntpublished at 2 mins

    Dragons 0-0 Scarlets

It was very surreal watching Ken Owens leading out the Scarlets side to take the accolades on his 250th appearance for his region with just his team-mates and people allowed in the ground clapping his achievement.

The Pro14 semi-final play-off next weekend has already been advertised in some Irish papers as Leinster against Munster next Friday evening! Despite Scarlets still having a mathematical chance of ousting Munster.

Just a reminder as it stands, the Scarlets are four points behind Munster in Conference B.

In order to sneak into the semi-finals they will have to pick up a full five points against the Dragons and hope Munster don't get more than one match point from their final fixture against Connacht tomorrow.

Highly unlikely but let's see what unfolds this evening.

  8. Kick-offpublished at 1 min

A landmark match for the man described by his coach as the “spiritual leader and heartbeat of our team”.

Ken Owens makes his 250th appearance for the Scarlets and begins a record seventh year as captain. In doing so he overtakes the great Phil Bennett who led the Scarlets for six seasons during their pre-regional existence as Llanelli RFC.

Scarlets make six changes from the win over Cardiff Blues, including Angus O'Brien for Leigh Halfpenny at full-back and Kieran Hardy at scrum-half.

In the back-row, Tongan international Sione Kalamafoni will make his Scarlets debut, while James Davies is selected for his first start of the campaign.

Scarlets: Angus O'Brien; Johnny McNicholl, Steff Hughes, Johnny Williams, Steff Evans; Dan Jones, Kieran Hardy; Wyn Jones, Ken Owens (capt), Samson Lee, Jake Ball, Lewis Rawlins, Ed Kennedy, James Davies, Sione Kalamafoni.

Replacements: Ryan Elias, Phil Price, Javan Sebastian, Josh Helps, Josh Macleod, Dane Blacker, Paul Asquith, Tom Rogers.

He packs down at six, with Harrison Keddie at eight and Taine Basham at openside in the continuing injury absence of Wales flanker Ollie Griffiths. Meanwhile Lock Mathew Screech finishes with the accolade of having started every Pro14 game this season.

Director of rugby Dean Ryan has made 10 changes to the team that drew against the Ospreys. Prop Chris Coleman will make the first Pro14 start of his career alongside Josh Reynolds and Elliot Dee in a new lock front-row.

Dragons: Will Talbot-Davies; Jared Rosser, Adam Warren, Nick Tompkins, Ashton Hewitt; Sam Davies, Rhodri Williams (capt); Josh Reynolds, Elliot Dee, Chris Coleman, Max Williams, Matthew Screech, Aaron Wainwright, Taine Basham, Harrison Keddie.

Dean Ryan has spoken of creating opportunities for possible ‘wildcards’ to impress ahead of next month’s Challenge Cup quarter-final against Bristol and long-term there is a clear aim to increase squad depth and experience.

But today there’s also the chance to do the ‘double’ over the Scarlets for the first time since 2007/2008 - and win three in a row in the league against them for the first time in the region's history.

  14. Hello and welcome!published at 16:46 British Summer Time 29 August 2020

    Dragons v Scarlets (17:15 BST)

Just a week after the re-start of the season, today we see one Welsh side fighting for a place in the semi-finals.

The Scarlets are looking for a win against the Dragons in the final league game of the season to keep their Guinness Pro14 play-off hopes alive.

Feels familiar doesn’t it? Glenn Delaney’s side will be hoping for a different outcome than the memorable 34-32 defeat at Judgement Day in 2019.

As it stands, the Scarlets are four points behind Munster in Conference B. In order to sneak into the semi-finals they will have to pick up a full five points against the Dragons on Saturday and hope Munster get nothing from their final fixture against Connacht on Sunday.
