What a start to the half!

Blair Kinghorn takes the ball to the line and puts Ben Muncaster into a hole with a lovely flat pass.

The Edinburgh fly-half doesn't stand and admire his work though - he goes with Muncaster in support and is on hand to get the ball back and run in under the posts.

    Emiliano Boffelli adds the extras.

The first 20 minutes, Edinburgh had no ball and were surviving on the strength of their defence. Edinburgh conceded six penalties in the first 20 - and one in the second 20. They found some discipline, started to apply some pressure and the tries flowed. It was an amazing about-turn

  5. Half-timepublished at 20:24 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2022

    Edinburgh 21-8 Connacht

Edinburgh started slowly but have swept back in emphatic style to lead by 13 points at the break.

    Dave Cherry

    Try number three!

From the line-out, Edinburgh's maul rolls menacingly towards the line and it's Dave Cherry who eventually dives over to score.

Emiliano Boffelli makes no mistake off the tee.

  9. try

Try - Edinburgh 14-8 Connachtpublished at 34 mins

    Henry Immelman

Edinburgh have turned this game on its head!

The hosts keep the ball alive from that initial break and Connacht are unable to slow down the speed of ball.

Chris Dean takes the ball to the line and puts Henry Immelman into a gap. The full-back goes in to score unopposed and Emiliano Boffelli adds the extras.

  10. Postpublished at 20:13 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2022

    Edinburgh 7-8 Connacht

Edinburgh attack down the left flank again and this time it's Henry Immelman who drives in the Connacht 22.

The visitors haul him down, but Edinburgh are firmly on the front foot now...

  11. try

Try - Edinburgh 7-8 Connachtpublished at 29 mins

    Emiliano Boffelli

    Edinburgh hit back!

The hosts steal a line-out through Glen Young and then Blair Kinghorn darts down the blind-side.

Edinburgh's fly-half skips to his left, finds Emiliano Boffelli with a lovely pass and the Argentine winger races into the corner to score.

Boffelli kicks a superb conversion and, having hardly been in the game, Edinburgh are just a point behind.

The dam was bound to burst. Edinburgh have had to make so many tackles in this first half, against such a good side, and it just opened up for Connacht there

  13. try

Try - Edinburgh 0-8 Connachtpublished at 24 mins

    Peter Sullivan

    It's been coming.

Connacht sweep forward again and there was only so many times that Edinburgh could scramble in defence before they ran out of numbers.

The men in green spread the ball wide to the right and, despite Henry Immelman throwing a hand at the final pass, Peter Sullivan is able to gather and score in the corner.

    Jack Carty misses the conversion.

  14. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Edinburgh 0-3 Connacht

Edinburgh do really well, first to disrupt the Connacht maul and then to force a handling error that wins the home side a scrum.

However, Ben Muncaster, having made a fantastic break, throws an overambitious offload to no-one in particular and Edinburgh cede possession once more.

  15. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Edinburgh 0-3 Connacht

And now Dave Cherry is penalised for going in at the side at a ruck.

Jack Carty kicks into the corner. Big defensive effort needed here for Edinburgh.

  16. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Edinburgh 0-3 Connacht

A box-kick from Henry Pyrgos goes all of three yards and Edinburgh are pinged for being offside.

Not the best passage of play from the hosts.

  17. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Edinburgh 0-3 Connacht

Edinburgh stab a kick through that Caolin Blade grounds in-goal.

Jack Carty clatters the drop-out down field, and the chance is gone.

  18. Postpublished at 14 mins

    Edinburgh 0-3 Connacht

Edinburgh get on the front foot for the first time tonight, but a loose pass from James Lang looks to have stalled all momentum.

However, some good work at the breakdown from Edinburgh's forwards earns a penalty that Emiliano Boffelli kicks into the corner.

Good chance for the hosts to hit back.

  19. Penalty - Edinburgh 0-3 Connachtpublished at 11 mins

    Jack Carty

A cross-field kick from Jack Carty can't quite be gathered, but Connacht had a penalty advantage in the bag.

The visitors' fly-half calls for his kicking tee and pops the kick over for the game's opening points.

  20. Sin-bin - Mesu Kunavulapublished at 8 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Connacht

Connacht scrum-half Caolin Blade picks-and-goes off the back of a scrum and wrong-foots Mesu Kunavula with some fast feet.

Kunavula sticks out a hand despairingly, which catches Blade in the face, and the referee shows no hesitation in showing Edinburgh's number eight a yellow card.
