  1. See you next week!published at 21:47 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    FT: Glasgow Warriors 29-27 Connacht

After a first-half that promised so much, the second-half failed to deliver.

A win is a win, but it wasn't quite the performance Franco Smith will have wanted to keep the momentum going before next weekend's EPCR semi-final.

He'll also hope the physios can work some miracles, with yet more Glasgow bodies falling to the wayside.

George Horne's late penalty proved to be decisive, so let's have a look at how he struck it to finish.

  2. Darge 'excited' for next few weekspublished at 21:40 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    FT: Glasgow Warriors 29-27 Connacht

Glasgow Warriors flanker Rory Darge is the Player of the Match. He spoke to Viaplay: "That was seriously tough, fair play to Connacht. They were outstanding.

"We showed some good bits but there's definitely some things we can get better at. That's not necessarily bad. We wanted this performance to lay a marker and give us confidence going into the last few weeks.

"It was frustrating, but huge credit to Connacht. They made it really difficult for us. We've got to be happy with the win.

[On the next few weeks] "It's hugely exciting. It makes it easy to come in every Monday when you know you've got something to play for."

  3. Glasgow lift the Scottish-Italian Shield!published at 21:33 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    FT: Glasgow Warriors 29-27 Connacht

Who could forget? Glasgow still have to lift the prestigious Scottish-Italian shield!

Eventually it is delivered to captains Stafford McDowell and Kyle Steyn to accept the trophy.

In case you're unfamiliar, that is given to the Scottish or Italian side that finishes highest in the United Rugby Championship. Thanks, Google...

  4. Full-time: Glasgow Warriors 29-27 Connachtpublished at 21:29 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    Aaaaand breathe.

Glasgow hold on, just. They might be a little disappointed with that one - there were a fair few spilled balls and needless penalties - but ultimately it's another win and they remain unbeaten at home this season.

Tries from Huw Jones, Tom Jordan, Ali Price and Johnny Matthews - and a George Horne penalty - got the win for Franco Smith's side - who now have two weeks to prepare for that home tie against Munster in the URC quarter-finals.

Before that though, they have the EPCR semi-final against Scarlets next weekend.

    Reaction coming up shortly!

But Glasgow win the penalty! The final whistle goes and they can breathe a huge sigh of relief.

Connacht won't win seven consecutive games, and they narrowly miss out on that record.

    Glasgow Warriors 29-27 Connacht

With just a minute and a half left on the clock, Domingo Miotti opts to kick and pen Connacht back in their own 22m.

It doesn't work. Shane Jennings bursts up the pitch and then Connacht win a penalty. They kick for the corner and the clock goes red.

    This is it.

    Shamus Hurley-Langton

    Well, well, well.

Glasgow have never put Connacht out of site and now we have a very interesting final few minutes. The visitors bundled their way forward and eventually replacement Shamus Hurley-Langton stretches for the line.

Carty gets the conversion and it is a two points game with just a few minutes to play.

  8. Penalty - Glasgow Warriors 29-20 Connachtpublished at 74 mins

    George Horne

Connacht have defended it brilliantly though, and the customary Johnny Matthews try is stopped.

The Warriors have actually been forced all the way back to the Connacht 22m... and then the Connacht 10m line. This is incredible defence.

Eventually though, it creeks. Glasgow have the chance to split the sticks and they do just that via Horne's boot.

    A very big three points.

Glasgow will have another chance to rumble towards the line, as a penalty is pinged into the corner.

    Glasgow Warriors 26-20 Connacht

Glasgow Warriors assistant coach Peter Horne tells Viaplay: "It's been a bit of a warzone, there are bodies dropping like flies.

"Little inaccuracies are creeping in so there's not been much rhythm since half-time. We just have to look after the ball and keep the pressure up.

"[Pete] Murchie has done a little work with the boys on yellow cards. In our shape, the loose forwards are out wide anyway. Fingers crossed, it'll be seamless for Matty out there."

  11. Penalty - Glasgow Warriors 26-20 Connachtpublished at 68 mins

    Jack Carty

Glasgow just cannot shake Connacht, who keep pinging them back to just within touching distance.

This time, the hosts give away a penalty about 35 yards from the line, but it's dead centre. Carty steps up and splits the posts.

    Johnny Matthews

Do we have a try? A Glasgow rolling maul heads towards the line and from seemingly the bottom of the pack, a hand stretches and dots the ball down.

Does that arm belong to Johnny Matthews? Yes it does.

It's good! As is George Horne's conversion! Glasgow finally get the first second half points.

  14. Warriors injuries mount...published at 20:56 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

    Glasgow Warriors 19-17 Connacht

Right, this is getting crazy now.

Glasgow started with scrum-half Jamie Dobie filling in on the wing once more.

Dobie got injured, so George Horne, another nine, replaced him.

Full-back Huw Jones was then invalided out, so fly-half Domingo Miotti came on for him.

Now Cole Forbes is crocked. Glasgow have no more backline replacements, so back-row Matt Fagerson has come on for the wing.

It looks like Fagerson is going to slot in at outside centre.

    Like I said, crazy.

Glasgow win a scrum penalty and kick to the corner. They go off in search of a bonus point try...

    No dice.

Connacht stand firm and force a knock on from Sione Vailanu. Big defensive set from the visitors.

  16. Replacementspublished at 49 mins

    Glasgow Warriors 19-17 Connacht

Not too much to write home about in this second half as a few knock-ons creep into the game.

A few changes on now, too. Jamie Bhatti and Johnny Matthews are on in the front row, with JP du Preez adding to Glasgow's pack.

Only two more subs before the bench is cleared.

    Glasgow Warriors 19-17 Connacht

Glasgow full-back Ollie Smith told Viaplay: "Connacht have brought good line speed and put us under a lot of pressure.

"It's a massive few weeks, the coaches are always saying we want to play five more games after tonight. We want to get to both finals in both competitions.

"We've used the depth of the squad of the year and it shows anyone can play if they get the chance."

The Scotland cap misses out tonight as he regains full fitness.

    Glasgow Warriors 19-17 Connacht

Jack Carty gets the second half underway at Scotstoun, as the sun dips behind the horizon.

Huw Jones isn't back out, so we can only assume he's failed that HIA. Tom Jordan will slot into full-back, Miotti is in at 10.

  19. Half-time - Glasgow Warriors 19-17 Connachtpublished at 20:27 British Summer Time 22 April 2023

And as Glasgow pile the pressure on, Sam Johnson spills!

That was a fantastic opportunity for Glasgow to put some distance between themselves and the visitors, who they just cannot seem to get away from.

It's been, in large parts, a very entertaining game of rugby. Glasgow have been inaccurate at the set piece though, and it's allowing Connacht to stay in the game.

Can they kick on in the second half? We shall wait and see.

Importantly, hopefully the injuries to Jamie Dobie and Huw Jones aren't too bad. Franco Smith will need them in the quarter-final against Munster.
