  1. Fiji too strong for Dyerpublished at 20:07 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Scrum V World Cup preview

    Nicky Robinson
    Former Wales and Cardiff fly-half

Rio Dyer could have a really good World Cup I just don't see him starting in this game, I think we could see him come through in other games.

Is he going to create a bit more if Fiji kick badly or we get a turnover is that something when Rio Dyer could come in?

But with how strong Fiji were against England, you need people to make those one on one tackles.

I'd go with Liam Williams with his attacking threat.

  2. Williams, LRZ and Adamspublished at 20:06 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Alex Cuthbert
    Wales and Ospreys winger

Back three I'd go with Liam Williams because of his steady hands.

Then Louis Rees-Zammit. Fiji can be a bit lazy in the back three and he's really good at those kicks through.

Other wing Gats likes Rio Dyer but defensively I'd go with Josh Adams.

OK, so onto the glamour positions, 11, 14 and 15.

This is Alex Cuthbert's area of expertise.

  5. Tompkins strongpublished at 20:03 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Scrum V World Cup preview

    Alex Cuthbert
    Wales and Ospreys winger

Nick Tompkins is stronger than you think, defensively he sticks quite close to 10 which makes it more difficult for 13 to read.

With the way Wales defend that's a possibility.

  6. Williams ahead of Tompkinspublished at 20:02 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Scrum V World Cup preview

    Nicky Robinson
    Former Wales and Cardiff fly-half

Johnny Williams has got a lot and offers a little bit more than Nick Tompkins.

I see a different Nick Tompkins with Saracens than when he plays for Wales, I'd like to see a bit more of how good Tompkins is in attack.

He is a really good communicator and Gat's is big on that, that wouldn't be a nailed on one for me at 12.

  7. Johnny Williams at 12published at 20:00 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Scrum V World Cup preview

    Josh Navidi
Former Wales and British and Irish Lions back row

I'd have Johnny Williams at 12 after the South Africa game, just for his directness.

I thought he put his hand up for starting at the World Cup in that game.

So now the podcast team are debating who should start at 12 and 13 against Fiji...

  9. Your choice for 10?published at 19:58 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

Ok, so, thumbs up for Anscombe to start - thumbs down for Biggar to start.

  10. Anscombe at 10?published at 19:57 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Scrum V World Cup preview

    Alex Cuthbert
    Wales and Ospreys winger

I caught up with Gareth Anscombe on Saturday and I tried to get some info out of him!

He's fine from his injury, that Anscombe-Biggar combination was so successful in 2019 but he's not had much rugby.

Jac Morgan is nailed on, Will Rowlands too. I think Adam Beard as well, we know the second rows.

Taulupe Faletau if he's fit he starts ahead of Wainwright.

  13. Fitness firstpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Gareth Griffiths
    BBC Sport Wales in Versailles

Tuesday will be the first time we see the Wales players training in France and we will see how many of the injury worries are fit.

The likes of Taulupe Faletau, Dewi Lake, Ryan Elias, Gareth Anscombe and Dafydd Jenkins have been battling to see if they will be ready for the opening match against Fiji on Sunday.

Some key players there. Wales head coach Warren Gatland will be hoping they can make it. The team is named on Friday.

  14. Old heads on young shoulderspublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Scrum V World Cup preview

    Josh Navidi
Former Wales and British and Irish Lions back row

I feel like we have the experienced heads, Will Rowlands and Adam Beard in the pack.

I think there's enough experience there for the younger boys to follow.

  15. Lost experiencepublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Scrum V World Cup preview

    Nicky Robinson
    Former Wales and Cardiff fly-half

In 2019 we had players capable of saying 'it is fine don't worry' when we fell behind, have we got those players now? We've lost key players like Ken Owens, Alun Wyn and Justin Tipuric.

  16. Pick your Wales team to face Fijipublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

This is a perfect time to get your thoughts.

Wales kick off their World Cup campaign against Fiji in Bordeaux on Sunday - but who would you pick for the opening pool game?

Wales coach Warren Gatland's 33-strong squad includes 16 players who have not been involved at a World Cup before.

After a disappointing Six Nations and a mixed World Cup build-up over the summer there are plenty of questions to be answered.

So, who would you choose to take the field at the Stade de Bordeaux?

  17. 'Set-piece is huge'published at 19:47 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

Set-piece is going to be huge against Fiji.

  18. Fiji talentpublished at 19:46 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Scrum V World Cup preview

    Nicky Robinson
    Former Wales and Cardiff fly-half

Against Fiji, because you're playing against such individuals, it's hard to ignore what they can do.

You have to focus on yourself but this game is so pivotal that it's hard to do so.

  19. 'I'm frightened about Fiji'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Scrum V World Cup preview

    Josh Navidi
Former Wales and British and Irish Lions back row

Fiji in the opening game is the one I'm scared about, especially with what they have shown throughout the warm ups.

If we can get through this one and kick on we will be in good stead.

  20. Feeling hot, hot, hotpublished at 19:43 British Summer Time 4 September 2023

    Scrum V World Cup preview

    Gareth Griffiths
    BBC Sport Wales in Versailles

It is hot in Versailles. Lovely... but also VERY hot.

The Wales players must have been melting in their smart suits yesterday at the official welcome ceremony.

Temperatures are 30C and above with tournament organisers mulling over whether there will be drinks breaks during matches when the action starts this Friday.

Wales will face Fiji in Bordeaux on Sunday where the temperatures are expected to soar despite the game kicking off at 9pm local time.

Lucky then that Wales have been warm weather training this summer in Switzerland and Turkey.
