  4. Post update

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

Barbarians captain and Wales' record cap holder Alun Wyn Jones on S4C:

"It's been a blink of an eye. You don't get to design how you say goodbye, it's not a World Cup, it's not a Heineken Cup final but it's at home playing for the Barbarians against Wales.

"An opportunity to thank the fans and a group of players that I used to play with and a few ex-players that I used to play with are coaching, I'm just very fortunate the Baa-Baas gave me the opportunity to play.

"I didn't play for the Barbarians and then I've had three in a year so my opportunities are like buses.

"Hopefully we can put on a bit of a show. The rugby is what we're here for and a few honourable mentions with Justin Tipuric and Leigh Halfpenny doing the same thing. Unfortunately Dan Biggar couldn't be here but he's in our thoughts also."

  5. Player charged with sexual assault

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

Barbarians rugby player Api Ratuniyarawa has been charged with sexual assault.

He was due to start on the bench for the Baa-Baas against Wales today but will no longer be involved in the fixture.

  6. Gatland: Halfpenny is 'the best professional I've worked with'

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

Wales head coach Warren Gatland on S4C: "The three retiring players should be named as some of the greats of the game. You don't always as players get to go out on your own terms at an iconic stadium like this in front of what's going to be a pretty good crowd.

"Hopefully the fans appreciate it as well. I spoke to Leigh [Halfpenny] before we came here on the bus and said it's an honour and a privilege for me to coach him.

"He's been the best professional I've ever been involved with within the game, Alun Wyn Jones with his record number of tests and Justin Tipuric has been an outstanding rugby player as well.

"Hopefully it's a great celebration for them, a good game and people can enjoy it."

  7. The Halfpenny effect

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

    Matt Lloyd

    BBC Sport at Principality Stadium

They're expecting a crowd well into the 50,000s here today given it's the only autumn international of the year due to the World Cup.

However I was told that ticket sales rocketed this week once it was announced that it would be Leigh Halfpenny's final appearance for Wales.

That's the affection Welsh fans have for the full-back.

  8. Departing players first out

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

Leigh Halfpenny is the first player out of the tunnel, followed quickly by Alun Wyn Jones, Justin Tipuric and their families.

  9. 'What great servants for Wales' - North

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

Wales centre George North says it is fitting that Alun Wyn Jones, Justin Tipuric and Leigh Halfpenny will get the opportunity to bow out of international rugby at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium when Wales face the Barbarians this afternoon.

  10. Goodbye #3 - Leigh Halfpenny

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

    Leigh Halfpenny

Leigh Halfpenny announced his decision to retire from international duty following Wales' exit from the World Cup, his third global tournament.

The Gorseinon boy once deemed too small for professional rugby has proved doubters wrong.

Halfpenny won 101 caps for Wales and scored 801 points after making his debut at the age of 19 against South Africa in November 2008.

In a career that sometimes stalled due to injury, Halfpenny's impressive Test caps and points tally could have been greater still.

He is third on the all-time list of men's points scorers for Wales, behind Neil Jenkins (1,049) and Stephen Jones (917). Jenkins was Halfpenny's hero growing up and became his mentor as Wales' kicking coach.

Leigh Halfpenny said: "I'm grateful for the opportunities I've had to wear the jersey over the last 15 years.

"It's been a privilege to put on the Welsh shirt and excited for Saturday. I've got friends and family coming along, and I'm looking forward to going out one last time.

"To run out alongside guys like Alun and Justin, albeit they'll be on the opposite side, and share the field with those two greats of the game and Welsh legends again, will be special."

  11. Goodbye #2 - Justin Tipuric

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

    Justin Tipuric

Justin Tipuric, recognisable by his trademark blue scrum cap, was capped 93 times for his country after making his international debut in 2011.

The flanker featured in two Grand Slam and four Six Nations-winning sides as he played alongside Dan Lydiate, Sam Warburton and Taulupe Faletau in one of the finest back-rows in Wales' history.

Tipuric captained Wales during the 2022 autumn internationals and also took over the Ospreys' leadership from Jones.

He was selected for three Lions tours, but only managed one Test appearance and was ruled out of the 2021 series in South Africa after suffering injury in the opening match against Japan in Murrayfield.

Justin Tipuric said: "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to face my home nation and play against some of my best mates.

"Representing the Barbarians is a huge honour. It will be a really special day and I want to enjoy every moment. The Baa-Baas have an important place in rugby and I want to do my part in the jersey.

"Representing the Barbarians, coming up against friends and playing alongside new friends means a lot.

"It will also be special to have my parents, wife and kids there for one last time in international rugby."

  12. Goodbye #1 - Alun Wyn Jones

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

    Alun Wyn Jones

Alun Wyn Jones is world rugby's most capped player with 170 internationals, 158 for Wales and 12 Tests for the Lions.

He made his international debut against Argentina as a flanker in 2006 and was part of three Grand Slam-winning and five Six Nations-winning sides, while reaching two World Cup semi-finals in four global tournaments.

For the Lions he played in a dozen consecutive Test matches, over four series, in a 12-year period. Jones captained the side in the series decider against Australia in Sydney in 2013 before leading the tourists in the 2-1 defeat against South Africa eight years later.

Jones is the record Ospreys' appearance holder and won four league titles with the region before leaving in the summer of 2023.

Alun Wyn Jones said: "It is going to be emotional, it's been a long time coming. I've been chasing an egg for a long time, so to have the last one in the stadium is going to be special.

"In any walk of life, all good things come to an end. When and where isn't always on your terms, whether it's injury, selection or whatever.

"So to be able to do it at home against Wales for the Barbarians - it's not a Heineken Cup final or a World Cup final - but the emotive elements for me personally are plain to see."

  13. Hooper ‘excited’ to play alongside Wales legends

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

Former Australia captain Michael Hooper will play in the same back row as "top fella" Justin Tipuric, with the pair packing down on the flanks for the Barbarians this afternoon.

  14. Barbarians fixture clash wrong admits WRU boss

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

Welsh Rugby Union interim chief Nigel Walker has admitted it was a mistake to allow Wales' match against Barbarians to clash with a regional derby.

The match is billed as a farewell to Wales legends, however it will finish little more than an hour before Scarlets face Cardiff in the United Rugby Championship (URC).

Welsh derbies are some of the biggest money-spinners for the regions who are facing even tougher financial cuts this season.

"It's not great that they're on the same day and I can assure people that it won't happen again," said Walker.

"It's not URC's fault. We should have stuck it out when we were sat at the table and said the derby can't be on that day.

"We need the Barbarians fixture and it's a great chance for the Welsh public to say well done to the team for the World Cup on the 50th anniversary of Gareth Edwards' famous try.

"But it shouldn't be on the same weekend as a Welsh derby. We need to be cuter about what we agree to."

  15. Gatland 'understands' criticism of uncapped fixture

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

Wales head coach Warren Gatland says he understands criticism of the uncapped fixture against the Barbarians on Saturday.

The four Welsh regions are providing the 23 Wales players who will be playing this afternoon.

"I understand the issues involved in that," said Gatland.

"We are conscious of that and that is why I was doing everything I could to support the regions by only picking 23 players in the original squad.

"We could have, as would have been in our normal situation, picked 33 or 34 but that would have taken another nine players out of the regions in terms of them being available for those teams."

To emphasise the unity Wales trained against Dragons at the Principality Stadium on Thursday.

  16. Wales v Barbarians 'unhelpful' and 'frustrating'

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel says the fixture clash of their Welsh derby against Cardiff on the day Wales host Barbarians is "unhelpful" and "frustrating".

Wales against the Barbarians will finish at around 16:30 GMT today, 45 minutes before Scarlets host Cardiff in a United Rugby Championship game 50 miles away in Llanelli.

Scarlets have 15 players unavailable because of injury and international commitments.

  17. Sentiment over substance?

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) decided to host this fixture just a week after the World Cup final.

They are the only national governing body to sanction such a match this weekend, and critics of the game view it as a meaningless friendly which undermines the Welsh domestic game.

All four Welsh regions are short of players for their United Rugby Championship games this weekend as a result of this game.

Ospreys captain Justin Tipuric admitted it was a difficult decision to miss their URC match in London against Sharks last night.

The WRU says a significant amount of turnover comes from gate receipts from international matches and that is essential for the financial future of Welsh rugby.

  18. THAT try - 50 years on

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

The Barbarians were in the Welsh capital 50 years ago to play what is now a famous match against New Zealand.

It is a game best remembered for Gareth Edwards' try - a try widely regarded as the greatest ever scored.

I'm sure you've seen it before, but it is always worth another look!

  19. Team news - Jones and Tipuric start for Baa-Baas

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

There is a strong Australian flavour to today's Barbarians team, but the Cardiff crowd will be focused on former Wales legends Alun Wyn Jones and Justin Tipuric.

Australia duo Eddie Jones and Michael Hooper are reunited for Barbarians, with Jones coaching the Baa-Baas alongside incoming New Zealand boss Scott Robertson.

Jones officially steps down as Australia head coach on November 25, but will be working with Wallabies Hooper, Angus Bell, Taniela Tupou, Rob Valetini, Andrew Kellaway and Ben Donaldson this weekend.

Former Wales internationals Jamie Roberts and Mark Jones - as well as 2003 England World Cup winner Will Greenwood - will act as Barbarians assistant coaches.

Barbarians: Ilasia Droasese (Fiji); Shaun Stevenson (New Zealand), Len Ikitau (Australia), Izaia Perese (Australia), Selestino Ravutaumada (Fiji); Nicolas Sanchez (Argentina), Simione Kuruvoli (Fiji); Joe Moody (New Zealand), Tevita Ikanivere (Fiji), Taniela Tupou (Australia), Rob Leota (Australia), Alun Wyn Jones (Wales, capt), Justin Tipuric (Wales), Michael Hooper (Australia), Rob Valetini (Australia).

Replacements: Angus Bell (Australia), Asafo Aumua (New Zealand), Peni Ravai (Fiji), Aaron Shingler (Wales), Tom Hooper (Australia), Lautaro Bazan Velez (Argentina), Ben Donaldson (Australia), Andrew Kellaway (Australia).

  20. Team news - Halfpenny to make final Wales appearance

    Wales v Barbarians (14:30 GMT)

Wales full-back Leigh Halfpenny makes his final international appearance this afternoon.

Halfpenny has won 101 caps for his country since making his debut at the age of 19 against South Africa way back in November 2008.

While Halfpenny's final Wales game is perhaps the main focus, there are plenty of other players who will be looking to use this game as an opportunity to impress Warren Gatland with the Six Nations fast approaching.

Dragons prop Lloyd Fairbrother makes his first Wales appearance, while Scarlets wing Tom Rogers and Dragons lock Ben Carter all start after not being involved in the World Cup.

Wales: Leigh Halfpenny; Tom Rogers, George North, Johnny Williams, Rio Dyer; Sam Costelow, Tomos Williams; Corey Domachowski, Dewi Lake, Lloyd Fairbrother, Ben Carter, Adam Beard, Dan Lydiate, Jac Morgan (capt), Aaron Wainwright.

Replacements: Elliot Dee, Nicky Smith, Harri O'Connor, Teddy Williams, Taine Plumtree, Kieran Hardy, Cai Evans, Mason Grady.
