  4. Almost time...published at 12:56 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

    Edinburgh v Castres (13:00)

This afternoon's fixture is a must win for the Scottish side if they want to have a chance at getting out of the pool stages.

Edinburgh did put on a stronger performance in the second half and converted a lot of the chances they were given but unfortunately it was too little too late.

This week they will be wanting to come out swinging in front of a home crowd.

  5. Everitt on Rae and Watsonpublished at 12:53 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

    Edinburgh v Castres (13:00)

There's also a potential debut for D'Arcy Rae - the Scotland prop who spent eight years down the M8 at Scotstoun - as he's named on the bench.

“It was always good to have D’Arcy back in Scotland. [He's] a popular man in our group, and he’s trained particularly well. He’s probably one of two that haven’t played a lot of rugby since I’ve been here, and he went well against Glasgow ‘A’ and it’s his opportunity to step up and show what he’s worth.”

Rae takes the tighthead spot on the bench and Javan Sebastian starts, with Everitt explaining: “WP [Nel] is on his return to play this week and should be available for selection next week.”

Everitt also named the player he is relying on for a good performance against Castres: “We know that they’re a transition team - they come alive on counter-attack and on turnover, so we have to be accurate in those departments.

"At the same time they do become loose, so I think Hamish Watson will have a big role to play in the game.”

  6. Edinburgh boss on Grahampublished at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

    Edinburgh v Castres (13:00)

Scotland flyer Darcy Graham is named on the Edinburgh bench having recovered from injury, and could play for Sean Everitt for the first time if he makes an appearance.

“Darcy has been out for a length of time, so putting him in the starting line-up now would be a little bit risky, so we’ll manage his game load," Edinburgh's head coach said.

"Our plan is to gradually bring him back so that he can fight for a place in the starting line-up.”

  7. Nakawara on bench as Castres change ninepublished at 12:45 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

    Edinburgh v Castres (13:00)

Castres make nine changes from the team that demolished Scarlets in the opening round.

Youngsters Lois Guerios and Pierre Colonna are in from the start, with Gauthier Maravat in at lock. French international Mathieu Babillot returns to captain the side.

There are five changes in the backs, with Gauthier Doubrere and Pierre Popelin in at half-back, with Fijian centre Adrea Cocagi in at 13.

There are a final two changes in the back-three, with Nathanael Hulleu on the wing and two-time French cap Geoffrey Palis starting at full-back.

Former Glasgow lock Leone Nakarawa is named on the bench.

  8. Price returns with Graham set to come off the benchpublished at 12:39 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2023

    Edinburgh v Castres (13:00)

Six players keep their jerseys from the bruising defeat to Clermont in France last weekend, with Harry Paterson moving from wing to full-back.

Wes Goosen starts, with Matt Currie and James Lang - fresh from signing a new contract - starting in the centres. Ben Healy returns at 10, and Ali Price recovers from a small knock to start at scrum-half.

Pierre Schoeman is the only change in the front-row, but Glen Young and Grant Gilchrist return to the boiler room. Jamie Ritchie is also back at blindside.

Scotland international D'Arcy Rae should make his Edinburgh debut from the bench, while Darcy Graham is named as a sub and could make his first club appearance of the season.
