It's about who can grab this final by the scruff of the neck. It may not be in this session but somewhere down the line someone might take off.

It might not happen, but if someone can they'll have a great advantage.

    Been to the Crucible?

Mark Webster: My first time was when my dad took me to see Steve James v Jimmy White in the SF. I forget the year, but it was one of the 90s when Hendry didn't win. Still love it. Went on Tuesday and going again next year.

Frame 13: John Higgins 5-7 Mark Williams (first to 18)

    Board

The players have to walk past the famous Crucible honours board every time they enter the arena.

2018 has a question mark next to it. Will it be Higgins or Williams who write their name on the list again?

We are back under way. As Jordan says, five frames to go today. If Williams wins two of them then he will be guaranteed an overnight lead.

Frame 12: John Higgins 5-7 Mark Williams (first to 18)

We still have another five frames to go today. If Williams can take them all then he will have a huge 12-5 lead. Alternatively, Higgins can end day one 10-7 ahead.

  15. 'Nail-biting stuff'published at 20:49 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

Frame 12: John Higgins 5-7 Mark Williams (first to 18)

    Ken Doherty
1997 world champion on BBC Two

It's a great watch and it's nail-biting stuff. The crowd are engrossed in it just as we are and it's great to see two top players go at it like boxers.

  16. Williams not splitting the pack wellpublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

Frame 12: John Higgins 5-7 Mark Williams (first to 18)

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

When Williams has been going into the pack, he's not splitting the packs open very well and that's why he hasn't been winning many frames in one visit.

There is a little bit of luck attached to that but it's also an art form. He's potted a lot of blacks where it's had to go into the cushion first and then back to the pack and it's a lot harder to guarantee the split.

It feels like John's now got his teeth into this match and he's a bulldog when he gets going. I think he's got his teeth into Mark's leg.

I tell you what, these two are serving up some final.

  19. Williams back to two aheadpublished at 20:37 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

Frame 12: John Higgins 5-7 Mark Williams (12-76, Williams 37)

Every time John Higgins gets close, Mark Williams wins another one. The Welshman has been winning all the way through this final. That missed red with the rest from Higgins proves a costly mistake as breaks of 37 and then

Now it is time for a mini-interval and both players have won two frames apiece this evening.

  20. Postpublished at 20:31 British Summer Time 6 May 2018

Frame 12: John Higgins 5-6 Mark Williams (first to 18)

While using the rest, Higgins gets the faintest of contacts on the red, but it is not enough as it is left agonisingly over the pocket. A glorious opportunity to level it up and make it six frames each slips through the Higgins' fingers. 12-12
