Michael:, external Unlucky Colin & Dom - no shame in losing to Bryan Bros in 4 sets. Roll on Sunday!

Cyril:, external Fine effort from Fleming and Inglot but it was always going to be a tough one to win. The Bryan's are terrific!

Bob Bryan: "I thought we played a great match against two top players we really respect a lot. They started playing great in that third set; we raised our energy and took it up a notch in that fourth."

    John Lloyd
Former British number one on BBC TV

"They were going up against the best. Colin was the more solid but there were glimpses from Inglot of what he possesses. He'll learn from an experience like this. He's only going to be playing weaker teams in the future, that's for sure."

  5. GAME, SET AND MATCHpublished at 22:04 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

An early American error gives the Britons hope but missed forehands from each man make it 15-30. A Mike Bryan lob looks to have drifted long, and the Brits call for it, but as the umpire races onto court to check the mark the oblivious Mike Bryan narrowly misses catching him with a smash. No matter, it's match point soon enough... Bob thumps away a forehand volley and we get the brotherly chest bump. "Celebrate!" demand Kool and the Gang. Over the PA, not in person.

Inglot is in trouble at 15-30 and winds up a smash that comes straight back, prompting him to belt the next one way over the baseline. Two break points - "these are basically match points," says John Lloyd on BBC Three - and the Inglot overhead saves the first, but he dabs a forehand volley into the net on the second. No chest bump from the Bryans but they are 'pumped'.

A love hold for the Bryans in about 80 seconds.

I'm assuming that the home fans can leave their giant cardboard cut-outs of Jim Courier's face somewhere on site. You really wouldn't want to be getting on the bus with one of those. Fleming slows the Bryans Express by holding comfortably enough.

    Ross Hutchins
British doubles player on BBC TV

"Colin messaged me last night and said Sam Querrey was devastated after losing to James Ward, as though he'd never seen a player that down in the dumps after a loss."

Mike Bryan races though his service game, only slowed by a double fault at 40-0, and some delaying tactics might be required to stop the Americans speeding through this.

  11. Postpublished at 21:48 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

The Bryans look sharp on the return and catch Inglot flat-footed coming into the net for 30-30, before hurrying up Fleming and drawing the error for break point.... Mike Bryan makes the return but it's nothing special, and Fleming will be furious at netting the volley.

  12. Postpublished at 21:45 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

Bob Bryan swings a serve out wide and holds to love again. A few "USA! USA USA!!" chants drift around Petco Park. The Britons bump fists.

  13. GAME AND THIRD SETpublished at 21:39 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

Inglot drops the first point but gets to 15-15 with a serve at the body, before Fleming snaffles a high backhand at the net. An ace down the middle from Inglot and it's two set points... ace out wide, and Inglot emits a throaty roar that might have scared any watching children.

  14. Postpublished at 21:36 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

No messing about from the Bryans this time, another love hold, and Inglot must hold to force a fourth set.

  15. Postpublished at 21:34 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

    John Lloyd
Former British number one on BBC TV

"They've done well to get themselves back in this match because after two sets it looked like this was going away very quickly."

  16. Postpublished at 21:33 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

The British pair are in trouble at 0-30 but Inglot roars as he muscles away a volley, and the stays firm under fire at the net to make it 30-30. The Bryans keep the pressure up, however, and force Inglot to volley wide. Break point, second serve... and Fleming digs a great volley off his toes before setting up Inglot to stick away a backhand. A great hold.

  17. Postpublished at 21:29 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

If we have learned one thing today, it is that Dom Inglot can hit a tennis ball very, very hard. He creams a forehand return for 0-15 and then endangers his partner's health with another thunderbolt that flicks Fleming's arm, drawing a rueful smile. A sharp Inglot volley then gives the Britons a first break point of the day... and Fleming guides a backhand return down the line. There's life in this yet.

  18. Postpublished at 21:26 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

A rock solid hold for the Brits and Inglot expends more energy at the changeover, swishing two racquets at once as he considers which weapon to use next. The Bryans munch on presumably energy-giving snacks.

  19. Postpublished at 21:23 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

A nice end to the game for the Bryans as Mike smacks a thunderous forehand down the middle for a clean winner, before Bob sticks a racquet out and plays a killer drop volley.

  20. Postpublished at 21:21 Greenwich Mean Time 1 February 2014

Bob Bryan plays a great forehand when back on his heels behind the baseline, but at 40-15, Inglot lunges out wide for a backhand volley. The brass band plays another familiar tune that I can't quite place, and there's a decent crowd in at Petco Park tonight.
