  1. Murray 0-1 Lopez*published at 05:01 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2014

A cagey opening couple of points as both players get a feel for the court. A decent passing shot down the line from Murray gets him to 30-0 before Lopez attacks Murray's second serve for 30-15. Ominously, Lopez edges to break point at 30-40 and a Murray crosscourt shot to the Spaniard's forehand floats wide and the Briton is behind.

Murray, in white shirt, blue shorts and shoes, loses the toss and the red-shirted Lopez elects to receive serve on the Hisense Arena. The temperature is measured at 21C, with cloudy skies, compared to the 40C and above figures of this week's heat wave. Murray has reached the final in Melbourne in 2010, 2011 and 2013, while left-hander Lopez has never got further than the fourth round in 2012.

Morning, team. Welcome to the live text commentary for Andy Murray's third-round match against Spain's Feliciano Lopez in Melbourne. Wimbledon champion Murray, the fourth seed, has beaten Vincent Millot and Japan's Go Soeda in searing heat this week and will look to extend a 7-0 record against 26th seed Lopez in much cooler conditions on Saturday.
