It's time for me to take my leave, but there's still plenty of tennis for you to enjoy. Top seed Stanislas Wawrinka has just started his match again Sam Querry of the United States. You can watch that match in the video console at the top of this page.

So Murray's preparations for his Wimbledon defence started as he'd have hoped, but the break from competitive play may actually work in his favour. Either way, we'll find out when the greatest tennis tournament of them all starts in a couple of weeks.

But until next time, it's good afternoon from me. See ya!

The early defeat for Murray will at least give him some more time to put in some work with new coach and two-time Grand Slam champion, Amelie Mauresmo, who was named as his new coach on Sunday.

Matthew Winchcombe:, external I'd rather Andy's winning streak on grass ended at Queens rather than Wimbledon but still disappointing.

Defeat for Murray ended his 19-match winning streak on grass, and is his first since the 2012 Wimbledon final against Roger Federer. The Scot next's competitive match will be at Wimbledon when he begins the defence of his title on 23 June.

"I think it's just about fine-tuning for Murray. Had he lost early in the French Open and lost today, there could be concerns. But he got to semis in Paris and he won a match yesterday. His first serve went off a bit and he let Stepanek dictate a bit too much. I think it was just an all-round very good grass court performance from Stepanek. Murray might well take a few days off - which could be good for him. He looked a bit fatigued in that set. But let's be clear, this will have no relevance on his performance at Wimbledon."

Radek Stepanek on BBC Two: "I am sorry to beat Andy in front of his home crowd. It's always a pleasure to play here and the way I played today I am very pleased. I served well against one of the game's best returners and I think that was the key. You have to come up with your best against someone like Murray and it brought the best out of me."

Murray signs a few autographs before heading off court pretty sharpish. Stepanek gives the Briton a round of applause before heading out into the middle of the court to take the plaudits from an appreciative crowd.

"If you have eight set points, you should win the set. He didn't play with the urgency. He tried to work his way up through the gears but it didn't work today."

  11. GAME, SET AND MATCHpublished at 16:56 British Summer Time 12 June 2014

Stepanek is in complete control in this match, the Czech bossing it from the net and putting away another volley to go 15-0 up. Murray looks like he's on top in the next point, but Stepanek regains control and then sends Murray here, there and everywhere. It's eventually one ball too much and Murray surrenders the point. A booming serve brings up three match points.

Stepanek sends a forehand down the line. It looks out but there's no call. Murray challenges and he's proved right. However, it's a momentary reprieve as Murray dumps a forehand in the net. The defending champion is out.

"Murray has attempted to be very aggressive in this second set and hit the ball with power and that means a few unforced errors have come along. He needs help here - he needs Stepanek to miss a few first serves."

Murray's second serve continues to get a pasting and the Scot is forced to deuce. The Scot finally gets a first serve in - and what a difference it makes, as he puts away the soft return to bring up game point. Deuce follows after another wild hit as Murray's unforced error count gets out of hand.

Another game point goes wanting and suddenly Stepanek has a break point when Murray dumps an attempted drop in the net. A huge stroke of fortune for Stepanek follows as his return clips the net and dribbles over to seal the game. Murray is on the brink of defeat.

"It's been a highly impressive serving performance from Stepanek. It's been very strong, with 72% first serves made in this second set, so he's hardly succumbing to the pressure."

  15. Postpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 12 June 2014

Murray simply can't make any inroads on the Stepanek serve right now and as a result, the Czech is able to cruise through another service game for the loss of just one point.

Murray hangs on in there, coming through after being forced to deuce. But at the moment, Stepanek is able to blend impressive serving with some consistent hitting.

"Murray needs to put a few more returns in but Stepanek has been serving well, hitting aces, and is ready to rise to the occasion. Murray has made a few more errors than we might have expected, especially when he has had passing shot opportunities, but I think he'll be most concerned about his second serve."

Murray looks up to the sky in search of inspiration as he sends another ball sailing long and the Scot can do nothing about an ace down the centre as Stepanek reopens his two-game lead.

The winner of this match will play seventh seed Kevin Anderson, who beat Dan Evans earlier in the week, in the next round after the South African beat Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-4).
