  1. Post update

Murray's off for a glass of champagne, I'm off for a cup of cocoa and an early night.

Hats off to the British number one, who really seems to be hitting his straps as he looks to end a difficult year on a high.

Will we see him in London in November? Stick with us over the coming weeks to find out.

    Goodbye.

  2. Post update

Murray's victory sealed 30th ATP title in his 44th final.

He said he might allow himself one cheeky glass of bubbly before heading to Valencia for a tournament which carries 500 points. Then to Paris, where there are 1,000 on offer for the winner in the final qualifying event.

Ross McD: Proper gutsy performance from Murray there. Should give him real confidence going into Valencia and Paris.

Kate MacKenzie: Well done Andy! Cracking game and am delighted you won - richly deserved!

  4. Post update

    Andy Murray

Andy Murray: "It always feels good to win a tournament. It was an extremely difficult match. He deserved to win the first set, I deserved the second and the third could have gone either way. But it's been a great week and I'm very happy.

On the Race to London: "It's the same for both of us. He won in Shanghai last week, I won here. Whoever qualifies for the finals will deserve it. It's the best players over the 12 months. We'll see over the next weeks, but it's going to be very close."

  5. Race to London

The victory moves Murray up to seventh in the Race to London standings with two events still to play. The top eight qualify for the season-ending ATP Tour finals.

  6. Game, set and match

    Murray 5-7 6-2 7-5 Ferrer

Ferrer cracks a forehand just wide of the sideline. Then he goes long to give Murray two match points. Murray finds the outside line with an ace. The line judge calls "out". Murray challenges. The replay shows it caught the line and Murray wins the title.

  7. Post update

    *Murray 5-7 6-2 6-5 Ferrer

Murray lets out an anguished scream as a chance goes begging. But a huge winner on the next point makes it 15-30. Ferrer's backhand is a fraction long, giving Murray break points. And he finds a winner to break the Spaniard for the third time in a row to go 6-5 up. What a turnaround. Murray will serve for the match.

  8. Post update

    Murray 5-7 6-2 5-5 Ferrer*

So, can Andy Murray bring holding serve back into fashion? Looks like it. Two big serves and a booming forehand take him to 40-0.

A sweet backhand winner makes it all square in the decider. Over to you David.

George Smith: Today should be renamed seesaw sunday with the #QPRvLIV game and the Andy Murray match

  10. Post update

    *Murray 5-7 6-2 4-5 Ferrer

Incredible scenes. We've had four breaks of serve in a row and now Murray has two chances to make it a fifth and keep the match alive. Ferrer double faults. Murray is right back in it.

  11. Post update

    Murray 5-7 6-2 3-5 Ferrer*

After three consecutive breaks of serve, Ferrer punches home a volley to put Murray under pressure again at 0-30. Murray wins the next point, then cramps up on a forehand volley to give Ferrer two break points. The Spaniard only needs one to take himself to within one game of the title.

  12. Post update

    *Murray 5-7 6-2 3-4 Ferrer

    Andy Murray

Surely time for the Vienna DJ to hit them with a blast of "London Calling" by the Clash. Ferrer is in the driving seat for the ATP Tour finals at the moment, but Murray's response to back-to-back breaks is excellent as he wins the first three points on the Spaniard's serve. Ferrer tugs it back to 30-40 but Murray drills a flat forehand that Ferrer can't return and we're back on serve.

  13. Post update

    Murray 5-7 6-2 2-4 Ferrer*

This is a real humdinger, but you wouldn't know it from the expressionless faces of the Vienna public. Every point is a real tussle. Murray squeezes 30-15 up then Ferrer whips a forehand return winner down the line. Murray nets a backhand. Break point Ferrer....

Murray saves it, then keeps out a second. Here's the third ... long rally, but Murray is looking a bit desperate and Ferrer's greater power and purpose tells as Murray dumps a forehand into the net.

  14. Post update

    *Murray 5-7 6-2 2-3 Ferrer

Both players are starting to look a bit weary. Murray wants to hit right back here but at 15-30 he wastes a chance when his return loops long. Ferrer holds on to take the lead in the decider.

  15. Post update

    Murray 5-7 6-2 2-2 Ferrer*

Ferrer goes after the Murray serve, finding the corner with a forehand to open up three break points. Murray finds a timely ace then puts away a volley. One more break point to save, but Ferrer ups his game and takes the point with a beautiful volleyed pick-up off his toes. Murray whacks his feet with his racquet in frustration. We could be here for some time yet...

  16. Post update

    *Murray 5-7 6-2 2-1 Ferrer

    Andy Murray

Murray won his first title in 15 months at the end of September at the inaugural Shenzhen Open. Is he on the way to number two here?

Ferrer is certainly showing no signs of making this easy for him, blasting 40-0 ahead on serve. Murray pegs him right back to deuce, but can't go any further, eventually giving up the ghost with a forehand that lands some way beyond the baseline.

  17. Post update

    Murray 5-7 6-2 2-0 Ferrer*

Murray is on the front foot, swinging freely and keeping the points short as he goes 40-0 ahead on his own serve. Murray once again seals the game with an ace.

  18. Post update

    *Murray 5-7 6-2 1-0 Ferrer

Now for the decider then. From 30-30, an exquisite angled forehand from Murray gives him a break point and an early chance to seize the initiative. Ferrer nets a backhand and Murray is now in full charge.

  19. Game and second set Murray

    Murray 5-7 6-2 Ferrer*

Ferrer is not giving this one up. He takes the first two points on the Murray serve before the Scot puts away a smash. Murray does not look back, earning some fortune from from a net-chord on the way to levelling up the match at one set apiece.

Ross McD: If Murray does come through from here it'll be more a boost to his confidence by beating a tough opponent than his points tally.

  21. Post update

    *Murray 5-7 5-2 Ferrer

    Andy Murray

What a shot! Murray slams a backhand crosscourt winner to get his fists pumping. Ferrer is going nowhere though, winning the next two points. Murray takes his next return early to make it 30-30. Nip and tuck. Now we're at deuce, not once but twice. Murray earns a break point ... and takes it when Ferrer curls a forehand into the net. Superb from Murray, who will now serve for the second set.

  22. Post update

    Murray 5-7 4-2 Ferrer*

    Swedish House Mafia

A blast of "Don't you worry child" by Swedish House Mafia rings around this otherwise rather sombre auditorium in the gap between games. Seems rather inappropriate in a city famed for classical music. Both players seem to have found their serving touch now, with Murray easing to a hold to 15.

  23. Post update

    *Murray 5-7 3-2 Ferrer

Ferrer launches a succession of service rockets to hold to love and close the gap in this second set to a single game.

WILFRED: In the last 3 matches between Murray and Ferrer, the player who dropped the 1st set came back to win the match.

    David Ferrer

Good knowledge Wilfred. Ferrer won in Shanghai this year and Murray in 2013 in Miami and Wimbledon in 2012. All came from a set down to win the match.

  25. Post update

    Murray 5-7 3-1 Ferrer*

Murray needs to consolidate the break but threatens to do exactly the opposite. A sweetly-struck lob helps Ferrer earn three break points. Murray saves all three and now it's anyone's game at deuce. Ferrer times his advance to the net to perfection to put away a backhand volley, but Murray saves his fourth break point and goes on to clinch the game with a big serve that flies high and wide off the edge of Ferrer's bat.

  26. Post update

    *Murray 5-7 2-1 Ferrer

Now then. What's happened to Davey Ferrer? Two double faults in a row from the Spaniard and a Murray winner give the British number one two break points. Murray wastes the first with a dismal second serve return. Another second serve now ... and this time Murray sends the return into Ferrer's body. The Spaniard's reply sails long and Murray goes a break up in the second set.

  27. Post update

    Murray 5-7 1-1 Ferrer*

Murray is in a dogfight here, with Ferrer yapping away at his heels like a cocker spaniel. Murray is taken to deuce on serve, then earns an advantage, but just when he needs to pull the trigger he nets. Ferrer steps in from the baseline to rip a forehand winner, but Murray gives as good as he gets to save a break point. Moments later, a bulldozed forehand down the line keeps Murray in the match.

  28. Post update

    *Murray 5-7 0-1 Ferrer

Ferrer storms into a 40-0 lead in the blink of an eye. Murray wins the next two points with big hits, but Ferrer sneaks over the line to take the lead in this second set.

  29. Post update

    Andy Murray

Murray has it all to do now. Remember, the winner of this match will finish the week inside the eight qualifying places for the ATP Tour finals in London. The loser will be ninth with only two more events - in Valencia and Paris - to play.

  30. Game and first set Ferrer

    Murray 5-7 Ferrer*

Ferrer is all over Murray at the start of this game, hoisting up a brilliant lob for 0-30 on the Scot's serve before Murray dumps one into the net to give his opponent three set points. Murray saves the first two, but concedes the set when he pushes a backhand wide.

  31. Post update

    *Murray 5-6 Ferrer

Murray throws his racquet to the ground in frustration after losing a mini-epic of a point. Ferrer finds an impossible angle on his backhand to go 40-0 ahead. Another monster of a point follows before Ferrer induces a forehand error from Murray to go 6-5 ahead.

  32. Post update

    Murray 5-5 Ferrer*

Ferrer, sporting a tightly-trimmed goatee beard and headband, wants to finish this set here and now. But Murray is ready for him, landing his first serves and going 40-15 up with a thumping flat backhand winner. For the third time in the match, he seals it with an ace for 5-5.

  33. Post update

    *Murray 4-5 Ferrer

    David Ferrer

Murray hurries Ferrer into an error to take us to 30-30. Ferrer powers a forehand into the corner for 40-30 but is soon pegged back to deuce. A drilled return gives Murray a break point but Ferrer responds with a whipped forehand into the corner. Deuce after deuce follows with the game growing in importance with every passing point. Ferrer finally finishes an eight-minute game with a wide serve that Murray cannot get back over the net.

  34. Post update

    Murray 4-4 Ferrer*

    Andy Murray

Murray is moving well now, his trainers squeaking on the indoor surface. The Scot comfortably holds serve to take us to 4-4 in this crucial first set.

  35. Post update

    *Murray 3-4 Ferrer

Brilliant from Murray as he lunges to catch a forehand volley and send it back across court for a winner. The shot seems to invigorate Murray and he wins the next two points to earn himself a first break point of the game.

Ferrer saves it when Murray loops a forehand long, but Murray wins his second break point when Ferrer pulls a forehand into the trees. We're back on serve in this first set.

  36. Post update

    Murray 2-4 Ferrer*

Murray's third ace is followed by his first double fault to give Ferrer another glimmer of a chance at 30-30. Murray snuffs out the immediate danger with an ace but is taken to deuce by some sharp net play from the Spaniard. Murray saves one break point, but a horrible missed forehand gifts Ferrer the game.

Murray is clearly furious with himself. But can he respond?

  37. Post update

    *Murray 2-3 Ferrer

    Andy Murray

Murray goes for a big backhand winner down the line but pushes it out of bounds. A Ferrer double fault makes it 30-30, but the Spaniard hits back with a thunderous forehand winner. Murray nets a forehand and we're still on serve in this cagey but captivating final.

  38. Post update

    Murray 2-2 Ferrer*

World number five Ferrer reached his first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros in 2013 taking him to a career-high ranking of three.

And the Spaniard is really getting into his groove now, giving himself a sniff on Murray's serve at 30-30. A weak drop shot nearly leads him in trouble, but Murray shows sharp reactions to volley a winner and then serve out the game with an ace.

  40. Post update

    *Murray 1-2 Ferrer

Murray, who won the first set in Shanghai last week before being blown away in the next two, is off to something of a flyer here. His defensive retrieval skills are at their best as he nudges 30-15 ahead. Ferrer responds superbly, though, finding parts of the court that even Murray can't reach as he wins the game to 30.

  41. Post update

    Murray 1-1 Ferrer*

As expected this is already a slugfest, with both players sending down booming groundstrokes. Murray holds the edge throughout his service game and levels up with an ace down the middle.

  42. Post update

    *Murray 0-1 Ferrer

Murray surges 15-30 ahead with a blistering return then makes Ferrer work hard to level at 30-all. Murray nets a backhand, then Ferrer put the game away with a forehand winner down the line.

  46. Post update

Murray has qualified for the World Tour Finals, which will be held at the O2 Arena from 9 to 16 November, every year since 2008.

But he's also under pressure from Grigor Dimitrov, his Bulgarian conqueror at Wimbledon. Dimitrov, who is 11th in the standings, takes on seventh-placed Tomas Berdych in the final of the Stockholm Open at 14:00 BST.

  47. The race is on

With a house in the Surrey commuter belt, Murray would stand a competitive advantage over most of his fellow tennis stars in a straight footrace to the UK capital. But in this particular race to London he's in need of a sprint finish.

Murray's semi-final victory over Viktor Troicki on Saturday moved him above Milos Raonic into the eighth and final qualifying spot for the Tour finals, but with ninth-placed Ferrer only 10 points behind, there's plenty to play for in Austria today.

  48. Post update

    Andy Murray

The British number one takes on David Ferrer in the final of the Vienna Open today, with both players fighting to make the cut for the season-ending showdown in November.
