On the Race to London: "It's the same for both of us. He won in Shanghai last week, I won here. Whoever qualifies for the finals will deserve it. It's the best players over the 12 months. We'll see over the next weeks, but it's going to be very close."

Surely time for the Vienna DJ to hit them with a blast of "London Calling" by the Clash. Ferrer is in the driving seat for the ATP Tour finals at the moment, but Murray's response to back-to-back breaks is excellent as he wins the first three points on the Spaniard's serve. Ferrer tugs it back to 30-40 but Murray drills a flat forehand that Ferrer can't return and we're back on serve.

  13. Postpublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 19 October 2014

This is a real humdinger, but you wouldn't know it from the expressionless faces of the Vienna public. Every point is a real tussle. Murray squeezes 30-15 up then Ferrer whips a forehand return winner down the line. Murray nets a backhand. Break point Ferrer....

Murray saves it, then keeps out a second. Here's the third ... long rally, but Murray is looking a bit desperate and Ferrer's greater power and purpose tells as Murray dumps a forehand into the net.

  14. Postpublished at 15:17 British Summer Time 19 October 2014

Both players are starting to look a bit weary. Murray wants to hit right back here but at 15-30 he wastes a chance when his return loops long. Ferrer holds on to take the lead in the decider.

One more break point to save, but Ferrer ups his game and takes the point with a beautiful volleyed pick-up off his toes. Murray whacks his feet with his racquet in frustration. We could be here for some time yet...

Murray won his first title in 15 months at the end of September at the inaugural Shenzhen Open. Is he on the way to number two here?

Ferrer is certainly showing no signs of making this easy for him, blasting 40-0 ahead on serve. Murray pegs him right back to deuce, but can't go any further, eventually giving up the ghost with a forehand that lands some way beyond the baseline.

Murray is on the front foot, swinging freely and keeping the points short as he goes 40-0 ahead on his own serve. Murray once again seals the game with an ace.

  19. Game and second set Murraypublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 19 October 2014

Ross McD:, external If Murray does come through from here it'll be more a boost to his confidence by beating a tough opponent than his points tally.
