Right then, I think we'll leave the disappointed words of a broken Murray hanging in the air. Poor man. What a way to end the season.

As for Roger Federer, I'm off to wager a few bob on him winning Wimbledon next year at the age of 33. The supersonic Swiss never ceases to amaze.

    Goodnight.

Andy Murray: "It was a tough night. I've lost Slam finals, which has been very tough, but in terms of the way the match went it was not ideal from my side of the court.

"He played exceptionally well. That's for sure. I can say I'm disappointed with my level, but even if I'd played well he probably still would have won. He was striking the ball very cleanly and made very few mistakes. He maybe didn't hit his first serve as well as he can but apart from that everything else was spot on.

    "I've never lost 6-0 6-0 before, I've hardly ever lost 6-0 6-1, It's very disappointing, it wasn't what I was looking for.

"He was through in the group, incredibly loose, he was able to try some shots that he might not try in other situations and everything he tried came off."

Shohidur Rahman:, external I was shocked when Murray announced Mauresmo as his coach. It's been a disaster.

Mitch Mansfield:, external Murrray's been reluctant to use fatigue as an excuse, but fear the schedule that got him to the #ATPWTF could come back to bite.

Demola Oke:, external Murray winning a game merely prevents this from being a whitewash. It's now just a mere merciless beating.. Federer imperial.

All this talk of a perfect match from Federer needs a bit of qualifying. In fact, he only got 38% of his first serves in. It didn't matter of course, he won all 14 points when he did get one in and 14 out of 22 points on his second serve. Murray won seven out of 19 points on first, and nine out of 29 on second. I don't think it's a stats sheet that Murray will be pinning to his bedroom wall.

"I'm still optimistic to see Andy Murray challenging for Grand Slams, but he's got a big point to prove to himself in the first three months of next year."

Rob: "Wow, what an exhibition of tennis from Roger Federer. Showing his class here."

Tim: "Federer's time travelling Delorian stuck at 2004. Wow."

Jonathan: "This is an absolute embarrassment. Sporting carnage."

Steve: "I assume this is the end of Mauresmo's tenure as Murray's coach."

Roger Federer won no less than 54 of the 78 points in that match. Astonishing. Murray is trudging back to his dressing room looking utterly distraught. What a humiliating experience for the Olympic champion.

Roger Federer: "Clearly I'm very happy to play a good match today. I knew I was qualified so maybe I went in a bit more relaxed. It's not the way I thought it was going to go but there's always next year for Andy and hopefully he can have a good season."

Murray hangs in there at 30-30 then misses a down the line pass to give Federer match point. The Swiss only needs one to wrap up victory in 56 minutes. Brutal.

From the ridiculous to the sublime as Murray serves his fourth double fault then produces a second serve ace. Game point Murray again. And when Federer can't get his serve back, the O2 crowd respond with one of the biggest cheers of the night.

Time for a comeback worthy of Istanbul or Medinah?

Federer proves he's human after all with his first double fault. Murray mutters something unmentionable to himself then dumps another forehand into the net to go 40-15 down. A cushioned volley winner put Federer 5-0 up. The whitewash is almost complete.

Murray puts away an overhead to earn his first game point since the second game of the match. A long rally follows and Murray once again blinks first. Murray sneaks another epic point, but once again wastes his advantage with an unforced error. A forehand into the net and a backhand long take Murray's unforced error count up to 20 and give Federer yet another break.

"It is one of Roger Federer's finest ever performances - absolutely staggering quality of play. At this stage, it must be very difficult for Andy Murray to lift himself. He just wasn't able to live with Federer after about five minutes. Federer won 14 points in a row at one stage."

A glimmer for Murray at 15-30 on the Fed serve but he wastes it by returning a second serve long. Two quick points later and Federer is halfway to winning this second set. When does Murray start thinking about the double bagel? What a horrible humiliation that would be for the British number one.

Murray edges 30-15 ahead but Federer squares up with a perfect drop shot. With the game in the balance, Murray double faults and Federer has another break point. A weak first serve, a blistering return, Murray goes long and it's eight games on the bounce for the Fed Express.

"Federer is having a great time, he looks like his mid-20s when he was in his most dominant dominant years. Federer's movement is incredible and his decision making superb."

Murray's first objective? Win a game. And the signs aren't good as Federer races into a 40-0 lead. Murray's ninth point of the entire match brings a big cheer but another overhit forehand sees another game slip by.

"Andy Murray will try his heart out and try to find a way back into the match for his self confidence, his sheer competitive spirit and to give everybody here a show. But what can he do? He's not playing that badly, but is playing the one of the greatest of all time in Roger Federer who has no pressure on him at all."
