You didn't think they actually signed the lenses did you?

Serena Williams signs off and the magic of television is ruined.

What is coming up tomorrow then?

Well, it looks a little something like this.

Britain's Andy Murray will face Marinko Matosevic and the Fanatics in the stands on Margaret Court Arena at around 02:00 GMT.

Away from the British interest, Roger Federer plays Simone Bolelli and Rafael Nadal takes on American Tim Smyczek.

"I'm a little sad. I'm going to have my Stevie G jerseys hanging somewhere. Unfortunately he won't be playing there any more. I'll have to make a trip probably to L.A. to have a look again.

"But 17 seasons, it's a long time." Liverpool fan Caroline Wozniacki is coming to terms with the departure of Steven Gerrard.

"My wife says I'm pretty good. I can't say more than that." Novak Djokovic passes the buck on the nappy-changing question.

"Next question, really." Milos Raonic refuses to bite on fellow Canadian Eugenie Bouchard's suggestion that he is obsessed by his hair.

Serena Williams stopped the clock on the encounter at one hour and one minute. But the headline figures hide the state she was in down the stretch in the second set.

While Alison van Uytvanck put up a spirited, game performance, it should not have got under her grill as much as it did.

There will be bigger pressure points to come. And she doesn't look like she will be able to keep the can on those mental gremlins.

It was scrappy, it was ugly, but it is the second round for Serena Williams.

She breaks Alison van Uytvanck to win the match with a framed backhand return. Just about sums it up.

It was not a performance that will have struck fear into any of the top women. Williams' game is impressive-looking but the foundation are shaky.

    This has really escalated quickly.

From first-round stroll to no-holds-barred dogfight in the space of half a set.

Serena Williams finds herself staring at the ugly end of 0-30 and the first-set calm has gone out the window.

Grunting with effort behind every shot and bellowing with relief after every success, Williams just about pulls herself out of the spiral and keep the second set on serve.

    Interesting, very interesting.

    Oh la la!

Alison van Uytvanck, who has been all guts and thunder in her best moments, breaks out a previously unseen drop-shot at 40-30 up.

It is absolutely delicious, dying just out of reach of the skidding Williams. The American ends up parked on her backside and she may feel that the rug is being pulled out from under in the match as a whole.

At the moment, Serena Williams is playing for one-shot rallies.

Her groundstrokes have gone walkabout and her confidence - once the exchanges get beyond the serve - has followed.

She is prodding rather than punching off the ground, hoping and waiting for a Alison van Uytvanck error rather than trying to take the Belgian's destiny out of her hands.

Tip-toeing around her forehand just about does the job, as she gets the ball back in play and Van Uytvanck strays long.

Alison van Uytvanck is not going anywhere soon though.

The Belgian is gaining friends as she keeps chucking the kitchen sink into her forehands and finding winners.

She has put a little hustle under Williams.

Features set back to parade-line inscrutable and serve set back to stun - Serena Williams is back into her rhythm.

Her groundstrokes have gone off the boil a bit, but the tee-off is still booming.

Only one point to nibble off for Alison van Uytvanck there.

There is definitely more of a wholemeal, fibrous feel to this set after the fast-food serving of the first.

Alison van Uytvanck starts to do her best impression the world number one, lamping the first serve and landing with regularity. She is advancing up the court at every chance and has the forehand to make the most of those raids.

The Belgian holds her serve to deuce and then does a passable Maria Sharapova clench and shout in celebration.

A mini-revival, but Alison van Uytvanck is up against Serena Williams' industrial-sized game.

The Belgian advances to deuce with a lovely slap of a return off the Williams serve.

She is shown out the door as though she is a gate-crasher at a mafia wedding. Two walloping aces from Williams snuff out the hope in a twinkle.

The mask slips for just a second.

Serena Williams calls for a Hawk-Eye review of Alison van Uytvanck's apparent ace and the replay shows she is right to doubt. The ball is a millimetre out, the tiniest sliver of court separating it from the white line.

She apologises to Van Uytvanck with a smile and maybe takes her foot off the gas for the rest of the game. The Belgian sees it out to love and the crowd cheer like she has taken the set.

Serena Williams strolls round the far net post - furthest from the umpire's chair and her own racquetbag - after blitzing through the opening game of the second set.

If Alison van Uytvanck hoped to throw Williams off her game with a rest break, she failed. The American is locked on.

Alison van Uytvanck takes a much-needed moment to collect her scrambled senses, heading to the bathroom at the changeover.

Serena Williams sits in meditative calm, eyes shut, on her stool and waits.

  19. Williams wins first setpublished at 08:38 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2015

Serena Williams is advancing up to within a racquet length of the service line on Alison van Uytvanck's second serve, snapping and snarling at the Belgian's less-than-fierce flops over the net.

Van Uytvanck is feeling the pressure, suddenly netting with her first attempts as she feels the big old bagel looming.

Slap on the cream cheese and slice the smoked salmon. It is unavoidable.

Twenty-one minutes on the clock and the set is bagged.

Serena Williams means business. She looks distinctly unamused as Alison van Uytvanck slaps a forehand winner cross-court straight off her serve.

A little flare of the nostrils, a meaningful glance down the other end and that is the only point the Belgian, ranked 105 places below her, is going to get from the game.

Williams is on the brink of the opening set and just 17 minutes has elapsed.

Inside the hour? It's definitely on.
