"Murray had been just enough ahead all the way through to stop it going to a fifth set. He is serving well and returning well and clearly playing with great freedom. He will be a strong favourite in the quarter-final against Kyrgios. He is looking good. There is a twinkle in his eye again. He is playing like the Andy Murray of 2013."

Andy Murray assumes the role of pantomime villain as he is interviewed on court in the Rod Laver Arena. Oh yes he does. That's because he is being quizzed about his upcoming tie against home favourite Nick Kyrgios.

"I might have a few fans in here," he says optimistically.

"It was a struggle but Andy Murray came through it. Grigor Dimitrov had a tough match in the previous round and Murray has been playing exceptionally well. I think he will now have too much in the tank for Nick Kyrgios. I just think Andy is in exceptional form this year and it is good to see."

Andy Murray: "It was an entertaining match, there were a lot of rallies and was fun for everyone watching. Grigor is an unbelievable athlete, is quick around the court, is agile, he gets to shots that others can't and has good hands. I'm glad I managed to get through. I thought I played well."

Andy Murray: "I did get quite lucky at the end - a few net chords went my way. That was the difference - a lot of games went back and forth. Once I got momentum I tried to keep it going."

Andy Murray does it! The Scot grabs match point at the first opportunity - albeit with a huge slice of luck. His forehand returns smacks the net cord and dribbles over to touch down in Dimitrov territory. Fortune favours the brave...

Murray races into a 30-0 lead, with Dimitrov's indomitable spirit seeming broken. But wait! The gutsy Bulgarian fights back. Taking on two bold forehands does the business for 30-30 before Murray spanks down a thunderous ace down the middle. Match point....

"Yes, that is how to break a racquet! Come on, I love it. I'm much happier by the smashed racquet than the clean Murray backhand winner. Wow, that was good racquet smashing. That was art. There is a divot on court where he threw it."

Remarkable turnaround by Andy Murray! The British number one is just one game away from the quarter-finals after a faultless display obliterates the Dimitrov serve.

Then the Bulgarian obliterates his racquet. He vents his frustrating by smashing his racquet into the court. New racquet please....

Murray is digging deeper than a JCB*. Momentum appeared to be firmly with Dimitrov only a couple of games ago, but it has switched back into Murray's favour. He controls the tempo of his service game, with Dimitrov - who has little answer - shanking a backhand out of the court for the game.

"It was a bad game, really bad for Dimitrov. After winning the first point he just went downhill. It is good for Andy though. Dimitrov has been winning his serve pretty easily this set, so Andy found the perfect game at the right time."
