Andy Murray speaking to Sky Sports: "I think he played well with confidence when he was ahead. He was striking well when he got a break up in the first set. I thought I played well after that actually, mixing it up and using my variety well. It was big to get the win in straight sets in cooler conditions today after Adrian Mannerino in the last round. I have played well against Kevin Anderson in the past, but he won in Salem the other week and is looking good."

That was all fairly clinical when you weigh it up at the end of the evening.

Kevin Anderson is up next for Murray. That will be tougher.

Andy Murray strikes like a cobra and will serve for a place in the last 16 next.

He is suddenly swarming all over the Thomaz Bellucci serve, punishing it for the first point and then keeping the pressure up to hustle and harry Bellucci out of the game for a break to love.

Bellucci looked out of his depth there, haring into the net to try and stem the tide, but only succeeding in making things easier for the Briton.

Andy Murray yanks a big forehand down towards Thomaz Bellucci and watches at his leisure as the Brazilian's lobbed fetch floats well long.

That is another service game wrapped up to love. Ten games in 40 minutes so far in this set.

This set is marching on remorselessly towards a tie-break. Neither man seems likely to back down on his serve.

Andy Murray gets a little bogged down, losing the first point and then seeing the speed drain out of his second serve.

That part of his game is still where the world's best can turn the screw on him.

Thomaz Bellucci is not the world's best though and cannot punish the 70mph pattercake pies being sent down from the other end.

And Thomaz Bellucci returns fire with his own hold to love.

Plenty of good stuff crammed into that game though to rev the crowd up.

First Bellucci shows Andy Murray that he can do deft as well, dribbling a dreamy dropper out of reach for the first point.

He clinches the final point after a brilliant razzle-dazzle exchange of lightning-quick reflexes and jagging angles.

It is not all efficiency and attrition though. Murray closes the game out with a forehand dropper from the baseline that had more disguise than Carlos the Jackal.

Serve is dominating.

Jeff Tarango, on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra, advises Murray to miss on purpose to conserve his energy for a surprise smash and grab raid on the Bellucci serve later in the set.

A careless cross-court forehand into the net at 30-40 looked complacent and Bellucci closes the game with a fine stretching volley at the net.

And what a way to sign off on the second.

Andy Murray dashes out wide, and, on the stretch, finds a sublime cross-court angle to leave Thomaz Bellucci's shoulders slumped.

The Brazilian is staring at the ugly rear end of a two sets to love scoreline.

Stick a fork in this second set, it is done.

Thomaz Bellucci looks like the belief has been pummelled out of him by Andy Murray's consistency after the opener. 

Andy Murray is in a little bit of a pinch at 15-30, but Thomaz Bellucci is not playing as well as he was in the first set.

The Brazilian pushes a ham-fisted volley wide to allow Murray to wrap up the game.

Meanwhile, Jeff Tarango on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra says that he thinks that Kevin Anderson will beat Murray in the next round should the Scot win tonight.

"Anderson is ready for a breakthrough and Andy is starting to look a little worn after a tough month," he says.

30-40. But Bellucci's gremlins return. The Brazilian attempts to smuggle a second serve out of Murray's winner-striking zone. And succeeds only in planting it into the net.

But finally, after 50 minutes, Murray is over the line in the opener.

Thomaz Bellucci coughs up an ugly forehand, swatting clean over the baseline to give Murray 30-40 and a break point.

A ding-donging rally ensues, back and forth, Murray scraping and scrimping out wide as Bellucci ups the pace.

Bellucci advances, Murray cracks a pancake-flat forehand pass over the wire, and the Brazilian can only fend into the net.

The first Hawk-Eye challenge of the match comes from Andy Murray at 40-30 up. 

He is questioning the eyesight of a line-judge who looks like an evening news anchorman - all silver hair and chestnut tan. And the Dan Rather lookalike is right by half an inch or so.

Another tick for your Eye-Spy Andy Murray book. He lets out his first 'C'mon' of the match as Thomaz Bellucci duffs a groundstroke into the net.

Bellucci plonks down a pedestrian tee-off, just to make sure, on the next point, but blinks first as the two players trade groundstrokes from the back.

Camp Murray snap their spines straight simultaneously, all nodding and applauding supportively as their man looks up towards the players' box.

He needs the help.

A sluggish second serve that didn't even make it over the net and Murray double-faults to 0-30.

It is the same scoreline that he faced in the opening game.

The cat is not so easily back in the bag this time though.

Thomaz Bellucci darts in and wrong-foots Murray for 15-40 and two break points.

First serve missed. Second serve in. Murray to the net. Bellucci goes to pass...and nets.

But a forehand into the top of the net from Murray hands his man the first break of the match.

Is that some Thai dye? Either that or Thomaz Bellucci's shirt has been mangled by the hot wash.

The Brazilian has shown that he means business in the opening two games, rattling on to a 40-0 lead on his own serve and only allowing Murray one point nibbled back.

Whomph! A pinging backhand winner from Thomaz Bellucci down the line and that is one that Murray can just watch and admire.

0-30 and a bit of pickle.

But via an ace and a walloped mid-court forehand, Murray has locked down the opening game.

It is either Kevin Anderson or Dominic Thiem for the winner of this match by the way.

And the good news.

Thomaz Bellucci has lost his last 14 matches against top-10 ranked opponents.

He has reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam only once in 27 attempts.

Murray by contrast has reached the quarter-finals at least of the last 18 Grand Slams he has entered.

A fully-focused, fit and firing Murray should wrap this one up without too much fuss.

Bellucci has previous

Let's start with the bad news.

Thomaz Bellucci, along with Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and not many other active players, has a winning record against Murray.

The 27-year-old won his only previous meeting with Murray, prevailing 6-4 6-2 in the last 16 of the Madrid Masters in 2011.

Jo Konta, speaking to Sky Sports:  "I've been here for about two weeks now and so I am just chuffed to still be here. I was trying to dicate to her, get her on her back foot, because she is most comfortable when dicatinh herself. 

"I'm happy I was able to take charge, and I'm happy that when I had to be scarppy and get balls back, I did that too.

"I didn't even know I was playing her but Petra Kvitova is a top five player I think. I'll have to have a talk to my coach but will be really looking forward to playing here again in front of so many people."

Incredible stuff from Jo Konta. 

How far can she go? Today was her first appearance in the last 32 of a Grand Slam and she nailed it. Eventually.

She's enjoying her moment, smashing balls into the sparse but jubilant crowd. 

How many will be there for her next match? 

She's up against Petra Kvitova next the two-time Wimbledon champion will be a stern test indeed.

Konta has done it! The sixth time is the charm! 

Petkovic looks for the far corner, she puts serious pace on the ball but it's long and wide. 

Now Konta can smile. She's through to the US Open last 16. Wow.

A fifth match point. There's a massive scream from Konta. This one. Now. Surely. Yes? 

Konta is way wide on her first serve, the second is slow and Petkovic latches on tight. The German hits one into the far corner and Konta can only find the net. 

How many more match points are we going to have?!

And the fourth one is wasted too! 

Konta hits long and we are back to deuce. The forehand side again - it looked like she held something back on that shot for sure.

Here we go then. Deep breath from Konta. She's been here before now. But not long enough ago?

It's edgy, her forehand slipping slightly to led Petkovic in, enough for a 30-30 share. 

Petkovic then hits wide when it looked easier not to. Here's a fourth match point...

You've just seen three match points slip through your fingers. How do you react? 

Konta deals with it admirably, she's really going for her shots. Petkovic seems to have found another level but Konta has the reply - a fantastic forehand winner from one corner to the other. 

But Petkovic grows again, surging into a 40-30 lead with a lovely drop shot before sealing the game with a forehand winner. 

Konta is still serving for the match...

Third time lucky for Konta? Nope. Petkovic is clinging on.

She looked to be starting to wilt again but buys herself a little more time and a break point with a testing drop shot that Konta can only send spinning on the reach. 

Petkovic then sees the game out but she still trails by three... Surely that's too much to ask?

This really is cat and mouse stuff now. The game edges up and away beyond seven minutes, both players retreat to the baseline. 

Konta hits a massive forehand, it hits the top of the net.. and... bounces on Petkovic's side. 

A second match point. But it's saved again! A vicious return from Petkovic is sent spinning by a Konta slice.

Konta sets herself up for match point with a strong serve, Petkovic responds with a defiant deep return on the next, back to deuce. 

Brilliant from both players at the net, Konta with a tasty drop-shot, Petkovic is so quick to pounce to force the break. But again her forehand is disappointing. Back to level terms. 

Again.

Who would have thought this second set would be so one-sided? Especially after the start of that first-set tie-break. 

How will Konta cope with this? Well surely she can't let her lead slip now... Can she? Petkovic zooms into a three-break point lead. 

Konta claws back one, and then another as Petkovic hits long...

That is brilliant from Konta, she smashes a return straight across court on the front foot, it zips away, leaving Petkovic stranded, rooted to the spot. 

Konta has no trouble following that up for the game. She's now serving for the match!

Petkovic has definitely recovered from her wobble now. She's all about the front foot, smashing one straight at Konta, who can only return with a reflex action into the net.

Petkovic challenges another late decision - once again the line umpire is right, and Konta comes back in at 30-30. 

A tremendous back-hand return stops Petkovic in her stride and sets up another break point but Petkovic comes back strongly again for deuce.

How close do you want? Petkovic is convinced her forehand was in and challenges the call. There's a nano-meter in it, maybe two, but the decision is correct. 

That could have turned the game, from 40-0 to 30-15, but Konta sees it through. 

She's looking comfortable and so she should. Surely she can't be caught now? The last 16 is beckoning. Is another seed set to fall?

Excellent stuff from Petkovic to see off Konta's advantage, a bold front-foot push to the edges. 

And the German really is coming back into her own again as she flashes one to the far corner, no way Konta was reaching that. The Briton then shoots too long and Petkovic holds.

Konta may have disappeared off the court while Petkovic was getting treatment but she's made sure to leave nothing behind on her return. 

Here she is scampering around in search of a cross-court winner, which she finds, and it looks like she's got more running still as she sets up two break points.

Can Konta seal it with a flourish? This forehand attempt goes wild, off into the distance. And Petkovic puts everything she has into the next rally to save the second. Deuce.

It's clearly the heat that's affecting Petkovic. She's got what looks like a very chilly towel draped across her shoulders and is taking on lots of water. 

Only the posh French stuff. She looks to be improving though and now digs into a banana. 

Konta is here and we are set to get back under way. How long can Petkovic last?

There's a medical time out. Konta is heading off away from the court while Petkovic gets treatment.

Can Konta keep her focus? She's so close to a brilliant win.

It's the heat you must think. Whatever it is it's clearly having an effect - Petkovic with a double fault and Konta's two to the good in this one, too. 

Konta senses something turning. She goes on the attack with a forehand winner, forcing the break point. Another sluggish Petkovic shot is called out by the line umpire but overruled. No challenge from Konta - she doesn't need it. Petkovic looks to be running out of steam. She's doubled over now.

The umpire's been on her phone. Petkovic's trainer has been summoned, seemingly. You can just about pick up the words - The German's not feeling well apparently.  

Konta picks up from where she left off, zooming into a 30-0 lead. She's dragging Petkovic all over the court - a strategy to tire her opponent? 

It's working if it is, as Petkovic slumps into a return from Konta's serve.

Konta hits back straight away. She lost the first two games of the match, and the first two points of the tie-break. But now she's woken up again (again).

Both players have dropped back now. It's all coming from the baseline and we're seeing some very long exchanges. 

Petkovic has got the stamina, and the eye for the moment to strike.

Yes indeed. Another slow second serve is punished by Petkovic. We're headed for a tie break. 

That winner would put a spring in anyone's step. Konta is no exception. Can she harness it? 

Petkovic has been here many times before. She's poised to strike, quick to earn a 30-15 lead. Konta then double faults. Two break points for Petkovic. 

Konta forces her into an error. One down. Petkovic then drifts one wide - she went for the jugular and missed. Surely not yet another break?

What a shot! And what a time to bring it out. Konta is aggressive and bold in search of another break and when she gets it she doesn't disappoint. 

Petkovic stretches at her cross-court forehand in desperation. Big point from the Briton. She's serving for the set.

Both players are feeling the pace now. Petkovic just manages to return on the stretch and Konta summons the composure to level at 15-15, right in the corner.

Another shot from Konta into the net for 30-30 - she looked sluggish there, but so does Petkovic, too. Her return slumps into the net,  a chance for a third break for Konta. 

It's a question of who can last this rally longest, Konta goes for the killer shot, a sweeping forehand, but it's just wide. Level at deuce.

This is brilliant in reply, from Konta. She knows she has to win this game and goes after it bravely, Petkovic can only hold on but Konta raises the pace to storm into a three-point lead. 

With the game in sight Petkovic raises her resistance, Konta can still finish things with a simply forehand, but it's too long. And again on the next point. 

Is Petkovic back in? Deep breath from Konta, and a scream of delight as her opponent hits long. 

More searing aggression from Petkovic. She's really in the groove, zooming into a three-point lead. Great mobility - Konta's looking very static by contrast. That's seven points in a row. 

Can she make it eight? Konta stubbornly rallies but Petkovic saves the best until last, a searching two-hander to the back corner for the game.

Petkovic really is rattled. She's been given a warning for having a dispute with her racquet.

Is she good when she's angry? She hits back with two deep returns, the forehand looks good here. Konta then double faults and Petkovic sees out the game with ominous ease. Cue fist pump.

So close. All the groundwork had been done. With Petkovic on the back foot Konta falls short with a drop shot at the net, wide.  

How to respond? With a rasping forehand Petkovic can only wave at. Then a tremendous backhand to the far corner for 30-30. Petkovic is rattled, she shoots wide and it's break point. Petkovic defends it - thanks to a lucky bounce off the net - but then shoots wide again. Konta has her on the rack, Petkovic goes for an ambitious diagonal passing shot, and once more it's wide. Konta breaks!

Petkovic thinks Konta's broken but she is calm. She powers through this one with her opponent hounding her at the net. Great poise to hold her serve.

Konta goes straight onto the front foot again, some excellent net play. There is some flair and flourish but it's all within her rhythm. Petkovic meanwhile, has got a change in pace in her and Konta's two-point lead is gone in no time.

It's break point as Konta's laboured forehand hits the net, but Petkovic hits long for deuce. Now is the time to raise your game and Konta obliges and goes on the attack. Petkovic is no slouch though and hits back straight away to level again. 

Wonderful stuff from Petkovic. Aggression, technique, poise. She's got it all as she powers into a volley for a two-points cushion. Konta can't keep up with this, she hits the deciding return wide. Petkovic sails away with this one. 

Ace. The first of the match. Is Konta in the groove? It's all very methodical, very composed, but it's just lacking that killer aggression. 

Now she goes on the attack though, racing to the net and Petkovic goes long, too long. One point to wrap it up and she finds it. Petkovic returns to the net.

This is better now as Konta shows a bit of hustle to win the first two points, but Petkovic is not ruffled. She goes on the attack big time, powering up to the net and delivering a sumptuous drop shot before dropping back for a massive forehand on her next. 

Level at 30-30, where is it headed? Konta comes back for her first break point, Petkovic fluffs her first serve and takes an absolute age for the second before hitting one long. Game on.

Double fault for Konta on her first serve and the nerves don't stop there, she drags a simple looking forehand way, way wide.

Petkovic can smell a break and she turns on the power for a passing winner for 0-40. Konta recovers for 30-40 but the German is too strong. Not the start Konta had intended.

Judy Murray knows Konta well through her role as Fed Cup captain, and told BBC Radio 5 live how a demoralising defeat in February pushed Konta to working with a sports psychologist: 

"On the last day we played Belarus to get out of the group and she had a bit of a horror. She suffered from really bad performance anxiety. 

She lost that match very quickly and was distraught afterwards. It was really a question of her recognising she needed to do something to help her control her emotions and her mind."

Murray believes Konta has "a real good shot against Petkovic", adding: "You go after that forehand side big time. 

"That was exactly what Jo did to Muguruza. If she plays in the same way and is able to stay as calm and composed as she was in the last match, I can't see any reason why she can't get through another match."

A bit of a rusty start from Petkovic as she hits two shots into the net, Konta can't take advantage though and the German soon levels at 30-30, Konta hitting long. 

Petkovic then gets lucky with what looked like a dud of a forehand reply, it hits the top of the net, bounces out of reach, Konta can't make it and Petkovic eventually sees the game out with a strong serve, having briefly been pegged back to deuce.

Now then, with the players out on court already, warming up, I don't think we've got time to delve too deep into this one. 

But it does remind me of a story I was told. A friend was seeing a German girl, who eventually ended things by explaining: "I need to see the skeleton of my chaos."

In case you didn't know, the other reason why Konta's win was such a big deal is because Muguruza is ranked eighth in the world. Konta is the world number 97 right now.

Her opponent today, German Andre Petkovic, is ranked 18th. 

So even if she does make it through to the fourth round, there's an argument to suggest the Muguruza win could still be her best ever (or so far). But not just because of the rankings.

The manner of that victory - grueling, determined, resilient - suggests the makings of a mentality that could carry Konta, 24, much further still.

Until now, the consensus seemed to be that there was potential, but something still was lacking.

Konta now has 15 wins on the bounce. And she is in the last 32 of a major tournament for the first time. 

The biggest victory of her life, then for sure.
