The Murray brothers are looking rather assured. Oh, hang on....they were looking rather assured.

Jamie's turn to serve, the left-hander helping tee up a 40-0 advantage. But then the Japanese pair storm back to wipe that put and force deuce. Uchiyama's slices a forehand wide of the tramlines, before Jamie crashes down a delicious outswinging serve that cannot be returned successfully.

Panic over.

Comfortable stuff from the Japanese pair, whose serve has not really been threatened by the two Scots. Even steven.

Jamie Murray and Yasutaka Uchiyama become embroiled in a personal duel, the Japanese player trying to dent Murray's defence at the net at 40-0. He can't. 

Murray volleys back everything thrown at him, with one of his returns eventually evading his opponent. "Out!" comes the call. Murray isn't convinced, challenges and is proved right. Another hold for the Brits.

Uchiyama, slightly rangier than his colleague, steps forward to give Japan advantage, but Nishioka's woeful lob is snaffled by Andy Murray.

But the Japanese pair put that blip behind them to rattle off a couple of points and hold their serve.

Jamie Murray grimaces as he spoons a volley skywards. That puts Japan on the brink at 40-0, only for the Brits to fightback for 40-30. A chorus of 'Ole, ole, ole!' goes up, then the home fans cheer again when Andy Murray's backhand volley forces deuce....

The British pair lead 40-15, with Jamie springing forward to the net to build a Murray wall that their Japanese opponents cannot break down. Nishioka drills a fierce return into the net on the decisive point

Now the Japanese nerves are settled. Just. Yoshihito Nishioka and Yasutaka Uchiyama put themselves on the scoreboard, cruising 40-0 ahead. Huge cheers greet a brief British fightback to 40-30, only for Nishioka to slam down a mis-hit overhead smash for the game.

Easy peasy. Andy Murray has the honour of serving first, cracking down an ace to start. The Japanese pair can't recover from that sensational start, going down to love in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it hold.

Murray and Murray teaming up for Great Britain is the big news ahead of day two of this opening Davis Cup tie.

The other key bit of news concerns the Japan team. Kei Nishikori is NOT playing. The world number six is resting for his humdinger against Andy Murray, meaning Yoshihito Nishioka and Yasutaka Uchiyama are Japan's doubles pair.

"Nishikori is no doubles novice and my feeling is you have to throw everything at every match, and it's a very defensive strategy to save him for the singles on Sunday."

The two teams stroll out into the noisy arena, which is a sea of British red, white and blue. The players are introduced to the 9,000-strong crowd, pose for the obligatory pre-match snap at the net, then go through their final warm-ups. Almost show-time.

So, about an hour ago, we received the news that we (kind of) expected. 

The Murray brothers are back together. There was an element of doubt whether Andy would partner his older sibling Jamie, with Dom Inglot waiting in the wings if the British number one wanted to conserve his energy for his decisive singles tie against Kei Nishikori tomorrow.

Perhaps Muzza junior feels he needs the match practice after his paternity leave. He's in.

Hello! As you're well aware, Andy Murray has swapped changing nappies for changing racquet strings this weekend.

The world number two returned to action with a comfortable win yesterday as Great Britain ended day one of their Davis Cup defence tied at 1-1 against Japan.

Murray, 28, beat world number 87 Taro Daniel 6-1 6-3 6-1 in Birmingham, but world number six Kei Nishikori brought the visitors level with a 6-3 7-5 7-6 (7-3) win over Dan Evans.

Victory in the best-of-five first-round tie will secure a quarter-final place and World Group status in 2017.

Going back to work for the first time after the birth of your child is a heart-rending experience. Ask any new father.

But once you're back in the office, you might as well throw yourself into the hard graft, taking your mind off the loved ones you've left behind at home.

And that's exactly what Andy Murray is doing. Great Britain's star employee has taken on an extra shift.
