They said it was going to be Friday's big blockbuster - it isn't disappointing. Thumping aces, cheeky volleys, ferocious forehands, even a shank off the racket that nearly cleans out a BBC journalist. That was me.

No wonder there's not a spare seat in the house (or the pen housing the world's cameramen). Even Greg Rusedski has used his considerable clout to bag a spot court-side.

A great stat on Venus Williams' 19-year-old opponent Daria Kasatkina.

It is standing room only on Court 8 as Alexander Zverev - the first teenager in the top 30 in a decade - takes to the court against Russian powderkeg Mikhail Youzhny.

Zverev sports some shaggy locks and a headband - a millennial Karate Kid look - and some whip-smart ground strokes.

I've been waiting for Del Potro to mix it up a little today, but he's either unwilling or incapable of doing so. But it doesn't matter... look at the score. He's winning!

    Ouch, DelPo. OUCH.

The Argentine smacks his racquet on his head in frustration as he misses a point against Stan Wawrinka.

Maybe it's knocked some sense into him, though. He has break point.

Oh, he's lost it again. Wawrinka holds.

Out on Court 18, the newly sun-kissed spectators are in buoyant mood as play gets under way after a rain delay. There was even a mini Mexican wave. Old favourite John Isner is in action against Matthew Barton.

That was not a way to give away the set after fighting so hard to get back into it, double fault and an easy forehand error from Kasatkina.

That is when you really have to make Venus play.

You are getting a glimpse of how and why Del Potro was so good and such a different opponent. You can see his confidence rising and if he could just become a little less predictable then he will become much more dangerous. This will be a big upset if Del Potro wins, but it wouldn't have been before he got injured.
