  4. Remain focused and solid - Murraypublished at 19:11 British Summer Time 4 July 2016

    Murray 7-5 6-1 6-4 Kyrgios

Andy Murray on BBC One: "The first set was very tight. I managed to get the break at 6-5 but it was tight up to that point. The second set was much more comfortable, Nick lost his focus a bit. I was able to dictate a lot of the rallies.

"Every year I play here it's the same, it's not any different this year. I try my best to win my matches and go as deep as possible.

"The matches, as you progress, get tougher. Tsonga is next who is a tough grass court player and I'll have to play very well to win that one.

"You can learn from the matches that you've played against him, but every match is different in an individual sport. if you put in a bad performance you can easily lose so I need to concentrate on my own form. if I remain as solid and as focused as today then i'll have a chance."

Kyrgios has got a lot of thinking to do and a lot of work to do.

I think this would be an important time for his parents to look him the eye and people like Lleyton Hewitt, these are the people who have got to force him to look in the mirror.

  10. Magical Murraypublished at 19:03 British Summer Time 4 July 2016

Well, we expected a humdinger, the most thrilling of examinations, and Murray has instead turned it into a stroll. Superlative from the Briton, and if there was anyone unsure why this man is white-hot favourite with the bookies for a second gentlemen's singles title, the last hour and three-quarters will surely have persuaded them.

Murray has got lucky but has been really really good.

The outcome has never been in doubt here.

Kyrgios with a weary backhand long, and a mere one hour 36 minutes in we have our first match point. Not this time - big serve, in for the volley, slaps it away. Oh, what a return from Murray, from way out wide on his forehand, caressed cross-court past Kyrgios's dripping nose. He'll hang on this time as Murray goes long this time, and Murray will serve for the match.

Kyrgios came out focused, looked to be playing well, served big but got tight and played some loose shots.

This is not doing our sport any good. This is Wimbledon Centre court, you have got to give 110 per cent to get back into it.

On the other hand, he has appeared to collapse after one bad volley. A volley that cost him the first set, but why should it cost him all belief in the second and third too? Why make it easier for an opponent already finding it easy? Murray holds to love once again, and he's now just one game away from the quarter-finals.

Let's try to look at this from the kid's perspective. He served with fearsome power in the first set, he was moving well, he was hitting his forehand with alacrity. None of it made any difference. What else can he do?
