Dan Evans serving to stay in the set.
Fifteen-thirty and a decider is just two possible points away.
Not a problem for Steely Dan.
He rattles off three successive points, chasing hard into the net and making his volleys stick.

The atmosphere is brewing up into something like a Wild West bar. Plenty of shouters from the bleachers and partisan cheering
It is an atmosphere that Dan Evans will be more at home in than Stan Wawrinka.
The Swiss finally pierces Evans' defences to take the game to thirty.

Belief and something else beginning with 'b' sounding like a castrated cow.
Dan Evans sees off a break point with a dead-eyed forehand right onto the paint.
He is fighting for every point, every inch, every breath.
He takes the game.

This is tightrope tennis.
Both men are right on the brink.
Dan Evans - on second serve - serves and volleys to save break point.
From deuce, there is a cagey exchange of backhand slice. Stan blinks first.
But Evans coughs up a double fault and suddenly has a second break point to face.
Wawrinka plonks a forehand wide.
On we go...

Dan Evans' racquet arm is flowing free, his footwork is as tidy and tight as the Riverdance chorus line. There is pressure. But the Briton looks like he is titanium lined.
He forces another break point with a cucumber cool volley.
Stan wriggles free once more, tapping into his backhand and finding a prime cut rather than a booby prize.

Dan Evans winkles another game out from deuce.
Stan Wawrinka's mojo looks like it is on the wane, netting a forehand into the middle of the net under no pressure.
Keeping track of the mental ebb and flow is as much a part of this match and the forehands and backhands.

Dan Evans comes pressing to the net and slots away the backhand volley from around his shoulders to bring up 30-30.
Stan in a bit of corner. He is into the net on the next point. Evans with a play on a stretching backhand. He goes down the line and sprays just wide.
Might the lob have been on?
Either way, chance gone.

Dan Evans with time-and-space-bending reflexes as he sticks out a raquet and incredibly claws back a volleyed winner for 40-30.
Stan applauded that one.
And the Evans forehand is still flowing as smooth and sweet as syrup. Wawrinka clocks one long and we are even stephens in the fourth.

Dan Evans chases down a ball at the back of the court, but the extravagant tweener shot between the legs flies long.
A little more spice at the changeover.
Dan Evans has gone for a toilet break. Stan Wawrinka is mighty aggrieved.
He'd be more aggrieved if Evans didn't go behind the scenes surely.

Just don't look down.
Dan Evans cannot risk getting vertigo as he attempts to scale the biggest peak in his career.
Stan Wawrinka presses forward hitting the ball smartly and stretching Evans out of shape.
Two break points and Evans concedes the first with a double fault.
This could be won by grey matter rather than cat gut.

Jamie Flexman: I hope I never see Dan Evans in another Challenger event for the remainder of his career. What a top player he's proving to be.
James Stevenson: How good is it to see this form from the British male players just ahead of the semi-final (and final?) of the Davis Cup?

How has Stan Wawrinka taken that tie-break loss?
The Swiss psyche looks sunk and Dan Evans is getting better and better.
The British number two is seeing it like a beachball and finding the sweet spot of the strings every time.
A backhand speeds away and he has a break to 30.

GB Davis Cup player Dominic Inglot: Dan Evans has matured so much in the last 12 months. He's always been smart but couldn't keep the focus for extended periods of times.
He knows when to attack, when to be patient, and when to change it up. He's allowing himself to get into good positions and Wawrinka is messing it up when it gets tight.

Absolutely clutch from Wawrinka.
He lamps a laser-guided backhand down the line to claw a third set point off the table in the tie-break.
Riveting drama.
