Of course there is still another Briton gunning for the quarter-finals today in New York.

Kyle Edmund goes up against world number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic at 02:00 BST tomorrow morning.

See you back here for live radio commentary.

    Bye for now.

Yep, Anastasija Sevastova is on her second go at a professional tennis career having grown disillusioned, dropped out, done a university course, a bit of coaching and finally rekindled her enthusiasm enough for a bit of a comeback.

Swiss world number 15 Timea Bacinsinszky took a similar break from the sport. A dose of the life outside the bubble seems to work wonders for some players.

  3. Konta out of US Openpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 4 September 2016

    Konta 4-6 5-7 Sevastova

Anastasija Sevestova interviews like she plays. No messing around, she tells the on-court mic woman several times that she just had to keep fighting.

She will play either Madison Keys or Caroline Wozniacki next.

    Konta 4-6 5-7 Sevastova

Anastasija Sevastova opens up 15-40 and another two match points. She only needs the one as Johanna Konta floats long.

The Latvian is a deserved winner. She has made all the running and the points were living and dying on her racquet.

Konta was out of sorts, but she was not allowed to get back into her groove with Sevastova nipping at her heels.

When the scoreboard is not showing a match point in her favour, Anastasija Sevastova's composure and concentration are unshakeable.

She comes through some high-pressure points once again to keep her nose in front and swing the spotlight back onto Johanna Konta.

A second match point for Anastasija Sevastova goes down the swanny as the Latvian hits a twitchy forehand return long.

There is a mild-to-moderate case of white-line fever here.

Johanna Konta sees 40-0 disappear to deuce in a twinkle.

Suddenly she is just two points away from defeat once again.

The margins are cigarette paper thin at this level. Just ask Dan Evans.

The crowd are cheering in anticipation as Anastasija Sevastova prepares to serve but Johanna Konta sees off match point with a whopper of a return.

Sevastova looks on the brink of tears as she finds herself break point down instead.

Konta loops a delicious half-volley lob over the top and in to seal the game and possibly start a full meltdown from the Latvian.

    Konta 4-6 3-5 *Sevastova

Anastasija Sevastova drifts over a drop-shot as silent and deadly as the Grim Reaper to bring up break point at 30-40.

Konta forced onto the defensive in the next point and loops up a smash that Sevastova has to retreat to reach, but should bury.

Instead it goes wide from the Latvian.

Cue brow wrinkles and deep as plough furrows from Sevastova.

Another chance from deuce. But again she fails to convert.

Third time is the charm as she wallops away a drive volley that seemed to hang over her for an age.

Sevastova will serve for the match next.

Johanna Konta racks up three break points at 0-40.

Anastasija Sevastova dons her cape and saved two of them, but the British number one closes off the angles at the net behind a bolshy forehand and punches away the final volley of the game.

Another break there and I think it would have been time to amputate Johanna Konta from this competition.

The Briton keeps her cards on the table though.

Can she get Anastasija Sevastova's nerves jangling? The Latvian did not look at home as the frontrunner in the first set.

    *Konta 4-6 1-4 Sevastova

Anastasija Sevastova locks on to her groundstrokes and - after streaking a forehand just wide on the point before - nails the game to the ground with an outright winner.

Clear blue water on the scoreboard. And Konta's coach Esteban Carril looks ready to leap the barrier to try and impart some advice to his charge.

    Topsy turvy, twisting and turning.

This narrative heads off in another direction.

Anastasija Sevastova coughs up her serve straight away after taking the early break in the second set.

Both players are someway short of their best. The first one to pull it together for a decent spell will probably be into the last 16.

Johanna Konta is really staring at the rough end of the scoreboard now.

Her serve - usually a reliable supply of free points - has run dry and Anastasija Sevastova takes advantage and the break.

Konta came through to win from an on-court collapse in the last round. This will require similar guts.

When she catches it sweetly, the ball comes off Anastasija Sevastova's strings with sound of a sniper rifle.

The Latvian percussive hitting is setting the soundtrack to the match so far.

She blasts her way out to the game from deuce. Johanna Konta needs to impose herself on this match and soon.

    Belief is ballooning in Sevastova.

    Konta 4-6 Sevastova

Johanna Konta is going to have to do this the long way round.

Anastasija Sevastova whips away a winner to seal her second set point and this time it is a squeal of delight rather than rage.

A pumped-up opponent in the deflated atmosphere of quarter-full Arthur Ashe, this is a real test for Konta.

    *Konta 4-5 Sevastova

Johanna Konta wins a tickly exchange of drop-shots to bring up a third break point, guessing right and tapping into open court.

    Anastasija is bubbling like Vesuvius.

She strafes a forehand into the doubles alley and edges a little closer to eruption as the set moves level once more.

Long of talent, short of fuse. That always makes for an interesting afternoon.

You always sensed that might happened.

Anastasija Sevastova drifts a routine backhhand long to offer up 15-40 and two break points.

    That was less expected.

    Johanna Konta can't take either.

    Deuce.
