  1. 'Rafa burgled the set'published at 10:41 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

Roanic has a reputation for getting tight when it matters and at the moment he's living up to that.

Rafa burgled that set. Nadal lost the initiative and Raonic was dominating but he managed to stay alive in the set and it was a meek finish from Raonic.

That's a gutting for Raonic. What a miserable way to see a set point get away. The guy with the biggest serve in town and he can't land it.

  6. Tie-breakpublished at 10:36 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    *Nadal 6-4 6-6 (4-6) Raonic

Superb lob from Raonic - it was the only thing he could imagine pulling off from the corner of the court.

    Set point.

  7. Tie-breakpublished at 10:34 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    *Nadal 6-4 6-6 (4-5) Raonic

    Serve and volley winner.

But mini-break back with a tight passing forehand from Nadal.

  8. Tie-breakpublished at 10:33 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    Nadal 6-4 6-6 (3-4) Raonic*

Nadal distributes two towels to assorted ball boys and girls after picking up his first service point.

The second is gone though - Raonic plays a wonderful point and mini-breaks with a leaping backhand volley.

  9. Tie-breakpublished at 10:30 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    *Nadal 6-4 6-6 (2-3) Raonic

    Nadal 6-4 6-6 (2-1) Raonic*

Into the net and a volley dispatched from Nadal.

  11. Tie-breakpublished at 10:27 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    *Nadal 6-4 6-6 (0-1) Raonic

Nadal long with a forehand - it was a chance. First blood Raonic.

    Nadal 6-4 6-6 Raonic*

Rub your eyes. That actually happened.

Nadal is almost falling over to chase a forehand but manages to get the lift, top-spin and pace to arrow it down the line. Unreal.

The umpire overrules a Nadal ace to say it's out - he challenges and it was good. Rafa looks fine with it, he has the point and the hold.

    It's tie-break time, baby!

    *Nadal 6-4 5-6 Raonic

Raonic reacts well, firing down a pair of big old serves.

Nadal hauls it back to 30-30 as Milos swings for the fences and gets it wrong.

Ace pulls him out of the fire and a long return gets him through.

    Nadal 6-4 5-5 Raonic*

A forehand down the line from Nadal could be wearing a dickie bow it's so smart. Gutsy shot at set point down that.

And Rafa pulls himself back off the edge of the cliff with scampering defence that draws Milos into hitting the net.

  15. Set point againpublished at 10:17 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    *Nadal 6-4 4-5 Raonic

The first one is saved by a brave serve out wide.

And Raonic inexplicably drops a backhand wide to let Nadal wriggle off the hook.

Miscued drop shot from Rafa finds nothing but net and it's set point again...

  16. Set pointpublished at 10:15 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    *Nadal 6-4 4-5 Raonic

A long forehand and and then one that drifts wide - not great from Rafa.

He gets back to 15-30 with a slippery, spinny serve.

But a double fault and two set points for Raonic...

  17. 'Raonic has to win this set'published at 10:14 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    Simon Briggs
Daily Telegraph tennis correspondent on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Nadal has not been as compelling in this set but is still steady, strong and probably the better player but it's a lot closer.

Raonic seems to have loosened up since his treatment and is getting the big serve going again and talking to himself to get himself moving.

He has to win this set realistically. You don't want to be two sets down against Nadal who is one of the most relentless competitors in any sport.

  18. 'Come on!'published at 10:11 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    Gigi Salmon
BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator

Raonic is trying to get some energy from somewhere, he's trying to get himself going, telling himself to 'Come on, come on'.

  19. Postpublished at 10:11 Greenwich Mean Time 25 January 2017

    *Nadal 6-4 4-5 Raonic

Raonic has a mare by lifting a top-spin forehand way too long.

Nadal thinks he's slapped an extraordinary forehand across court - Milos challenges though and he was right, it was just out. That's a big point for Raonic.

But he takes a step back by getting his footwork wrong on a forehand and we're at deuce.

A punchy forehand secures the hold though.

    Nadal 6-4 4-4 Raonic*

Raonic shows he can snaffle up a loose serve with a rip-roaring return winner.

It's a brief fillip though as Nadal whizzes through the hold.
