We have official confirmation from Roland Garros that David Goffin "suffered an injury to his right ankle" which caused him to retire. No great surprise to anyone who saw him limping off Suzanne Lenglen, but a huge blow to the Belgian, who looked capable of making real inroads here. It also denies everyone an enticing fourth-round contest between Goffin and the in-form Dominic Thiem.

Nadal is playing incredibly well and at an unbelievable level. If it's cooler, and there's more moisture, that doesn't help Nadal as much as it does when it's warmer.

With the rotation and bounce he puts on the ball, it won't jump as much and that might just help other players.

There might be a few rain dances going on.

Basilashvili is showing he has plenty of power - but he's not plugged in yet. The tennis equivalent of that cordless drill which you forgot to charge overnight before attempting to stick up that shelving.

He can't break Nadal's resistance, and then buckles with an error. The Georgian's only two points in this game come when Rafa gives him a helping hand.

Nadal has only dropped two points in the match so far and, dare I say it, Basiliashvili looks a beaten man already.

    Nadal 3-0 Basilashvili*

Basilashvili is no mug by the way. Victories against 31st seed Gilles Simon and Victor Troicki, who knows his way around a Grand Slam, have set up this match against the King of Clay.

But this is going to be a step too far. Surely. On the evidence of the opening nine minutes, that looks to be the case.

A pair of aces from Rafa seal an easy-peasy hold to love.

Canadian fifth seed Milos Raonic has advanced to the last 16 after veteran Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez retired through injury in the second set.

Raonic was leading 6-1 1-0 when 153rd-ranked Garcia-Lopez quit after just 28 minutes.

The world number six will meet either Grigor Dimitrov or Pablo Carreno Busta for a spot in the quarter-finals.

    *Nadal 2-0 Basilashvili

Flat and hard. That's Basilashvili's gameplan. But it isn't providing any winners yet.

Rafa has three break points and, after the first one slips by after an error by the fourth seed, another mistake from the Georgian hands over an early advantage.

Basilashvili has not won a point on his racquet yet...

Solid as a rock. Rafa starts in style, a neat drop-shot setting him on the way before Basilashvili hands over the game with an overcooked forehand.

Go on then, what do you think?

TWO! His only defeats on his favoured surface have both come at Roland Garros, that shock 2009 defeat by Robin Soderling and the quarter-final defeat by Novak Djokovic two years ago.

Anyone fancying Basilashvili to make it three? Hmmm..

    Rafa to kick us off.

This will be Rafa's 100th best-of-five match on clay. Guess how many he has lost?

  11. Nadal targeting 'La Decima'published at 12:11 British Summer Time 2 June 2017

    Nadal v Basilashvili

Rafa Nadal winning a 10th French Open would be "one of sport's biggest achievements", says former British number one Tim Henman.

The Spanish fourth seed meets Basilashvili in round three after outclassing Dutchman Robin Haase 6-1 6-4 6-3 on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old would become the first player in the Open era to win 10 titles at one Grand Slam, should he progress.

"It would be such an incredible achievement by such an incredible player," said Henman.

"You can't even fathom it. A lot of people don't win 10 tournaments, let alone 10 Grand Slams at one venue," added the Englishman.

A huge roar from those inside Chatrier who have not nipped off court for a lunchtime baguette.

Rafa, looking as cool as ever in a lilac and white ensemble, is in the house.

This is his first meeting against Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili, the aggressive world number 63.

However, there is some bad news... the clouds above Roland Garros are darkening.

Next up on Chatrier? Rafa Nadal. I think you might know a thing or two about him.

Apparently he's rather good on clay...

I think it's poised nicely for Muguruza now. The opponents that could have caused her problems are not around, although there's still the likes of Simona Halep.

She's coming into form and has the power on clay, so she has a good chance.

Voila! Garbine Muguruza laughs when she is asked by Marion Bartoli to speak in French, the former Wimbledon champ reassures her that she will help if necessary.

My GCSE 'B' grade in French isn't good enough to translate I'm afraid. I'm sure it was perfect.

    Tres bien Garbine!

"I tried to be aggressive and play my game. I always want to go for it, take chances and be in control."
