More good hitting. Murray is right in the groove.

Moving Nishikori around left and right and then timing the forehand down the line perfectly. It is too strong.

    Two break points Murray...

Is this the moment Murray pounces? Nishikori gives away two unforced errors.

Claps ring around Chatrier from the crowd.

    0-30.

Pressure on Murray who must hold serve here.

What a time for his first ace. 15-0.

The 'come ons' are back from Murray, as he shouts to himself after taking the next two points with ease.

That's classic Andy Murray. Nishikori is at the net but his approach sits up. Easy pickings for the Scot, bang, straight down the line like a laser.

"It's nearly the magical time," says a photographer nearby. I think he's referring to when the sun dips down towards the main stand and provides suitably dramatic lighting. He could also mean the business end of the third set, when one of these two players will take a firm grip on the match. Team Murray are in full clapping and nodding mode every time their man is in the vicinity.

    *Murray 2-6 6-1 4-5 Nishikori

Nishikori has a go at a serve and volley but he won't be doing that again, Murray puts the ball right on his shoelaces.

The Japanese player gets his own back though with a great volley and a passing shot winner.

    Over to you Andy.

    Wawrinka 6-3 6-3 4-0 Cilic

    Marin Cilic's head has gone.

More unforced errors in the third set - taking the Croatian's overall tally of mistakes to a whopping 31 - allow Stan Wawrinka to cruise into a 4-0 lead in what appears to be the final set.

Someone throw Cilic a pair of climbing boots and a harness - he's climbing the tennis equivalent of Mount Everest.

Good stuff from Murray with winners number 17, 18 and 19 helping him comfortably level the scores.

4-4, one set each. This match could be decided in this next period.

Will that game hand some momentum back to the Japanese eighth seed?

He is looking a little more like the player of the first set, deceiving Murray with a drop shot on the way to racing to 40-0.

Long from Murray. Nishikori ahead in this set.

  11. Nishikori breaks backpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    Murray 2-6 6-1 3-3 Nishikori*

This is not a time to let your concentration slip, Andy.

He falls down to 15-40 and has two break points to fend off.

Murray does so on the first but Kei Nishikori is not amused. The ball mark shows Murray's serve was well out. Too late now.

That'll cheer Nishikori up. Wide from Murray and he hands the break straight back.

    That was loose.

Adam Shougee: Come on Nishikori!!! Not your strong surface, but at least tire Murray out for Wawrinka. A slam for Nadal over a worthy finalist.

Jiten: When Murray drops the ball short, Kei punishes him. However, when Kei drops the ball short, Murray can't punish Kei

Nick Hughes: The serving by Murray & Nishikori has been woeful. Where's the Kei from the first set? He's MIA. So many errors.

    Wawrinka 6-3 6-3 Cilic

    Stan WawrinkaImage source, Reuters

Dear, oh dear. Marin Cilic has a meltdown after working so hard to claw Stan Wawrinka back in the second set.

The Croatian rattles off four unforced errors in his following service game to cough up another break, then provides little resistance as Wawrinka wins the next two games to tie up the second set.

Cilic has not beaten Wawrinka since 2010, a run spanning seven matches.

The positives? He has won the only five-set match he has contested at Roland Garros.

  14. Murray breakspublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    *Murray 2-6 6-1 3-2 Nishikori

In a blink of an eye Nishikori has gifted Andy Murray a real chance to turn the screw. 0-40 and three break points.

First one saved by the Japanese player with the serve.

Long from Nishikori on the second.

That was an awful game. Murray jogs back to his seat a break ahead in this set.

  15. Murray must capitalisepublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 7 June 2017

    Piers Newbery
    BBC Sport at Roland Garros

Murray has fought his way back into this match with a little help from Nishikori, who donated a whopping 13 unforced errors to the Briton's cause in the second set. Murray will still be disappointed not to have made more of his return game, with Nishikori only making a woeful 42% of first serves. The opportunities are there if he can take them.

    Murray 2-6 6-1 2-2 Nishikori*

Sun or no sun Murray hits a fifth double fault of the match to fall behind in his next service game. He had only hit 10 of those in the whole tournament coming in today. Definite room for improvement.

The Scot almost has Nishikori on his knees though as the Japanese player slips trying to set off after a well disguised drop shot. Another hold. We're building up to the crunch moments of this set.

    *Murray 2-6 6-1 1-2 Nishikori

Kei Nishikori has already made as many first serves in this set as he did in the whole of the previous one.

The serve is not his strength but he'll have to increase that first serve percentage if he is to have any chance.

Chatrier is fully in shade, as the sun heads behind a cloud again. That might help. Nishikori holds.

Cilic... bang! He's back in it. The Croatian seventh seed erases that dirty stain of a break.

Wawrinka wobbles as a loose backhand takes the sixth game into deuce, Cilic cracking a backhand winner before another unforced error from the Swiss.

Wawrinka's backhand is usually a thing of beauty. Not in this game.

The crowd have gone a little quiet on Chatrier as the high standard of the early stages has been replaced by a string of errors.

They're almost silent as Murray comfortably holds serve. Very little to get the locals going.
