    *Ostapenko 7-6 (7-4) 0-1 Bacsinszky

From what I've seen of Jelena Ostapenko it is safe to say that this match is far from done.

Her matches have more ups and downs than a day out at Alton Towers.

And here's exhibit A... the unseeded Latvian gifts a double break point to Bacsinszky in the opening game of the second set.

She continues to attack, whipping a forehand well wide of the line.

    Ostapenko 7-6 (7-4) Bacsinszky

Ostapenko couldn't do it first time, but she makes no mistake at the second attempt.

A backhand volley seals the deal. The 20-year-old Latvian is a set away from the French Open final!

No reaching that. Bacsinszky with an ace but Ostapenko responds on the next point. All square.

The mini-break goes as Ostapenko makes an error, then she pulls out a sublime drop-shot to stay on serve. Cheeky.

    Tie-break time!

I'd say unbelievable...but it is not. Ostapenko goes from sublime to the ridiculous again, coughing up her serve for the third time.

    *Ostapenko 6-5 Bacsinszky

Brilliant from Bacsinszky as she knocks an inch-perfect lob over Ostapenko's head which dusts the baseline.

But the Latvian takes her second chance with a wonderful forehand winner.

Groans from the Chatrier crowd as Ostapenko plants a weak volley into the net from close range.

That would have given her three break points! The Latvian turns slowly, Eric Cantona style, tapping her forehead with her right palm.

She recovers with a forehand winner, however, and she still has two more break points...

    "Come on!!!!"

Jelena Ostapenko shrieks in delight as she watches Timea Bacsinszky send a forehand over the baseline.

That seals a vital hold for the Latvian, who fooled the Swiss with a slightly slower first serve on the game-winning point.

Extraordinary. The momentum has well and truly shifted in this opening set.

Timea Bacsinszky follows up that break with a clinical hold, swiftly moving 40-0 up, then cracking down an ace at 40-15 to seal it.

Another break will do quite nicely for the Swiss. Ostapenko is serving to stay in the set...

  16. Serve hampering Ostapenkopublished at 14:56 British Summer Time 8 June 2017

The medical timeout for Bacsinszky allows more ticket holders to drift in - it's not easy getting here for a 3pm start, you know - and we're heading towards capacity. A gentle ripple of applause greets the Swiss player returning to her feet and brings the loud hum of conversation to a halt. Then a groan as Ostapenko double faults - problems on serve are preventing the Latvian from getting out in front.

Well, that right knee doesn't seem to be bothering Timea Bacsinszky too much.

After a five-minute wait for the Swiss to get treatment, it is Jelena Ostapenko who is caught cold.

The Latvian's first double fault of the match tees up two break back points for Bacsinszky...and she takes the first one.

Bacsinszky lies on a mat next to the sideline as the physio massages and straps up her right knee. That must have jarred as she landed awkwardly from her left leg buckling.

The doctor comes on too, perhaps to give her some anti-inflammatory tablets.

    *Ostapenko 4-3 Bacsinszky

Timea Bacsinszky has called the trainer out. Ouch! And for good reason.

As the Swiss 30th seed stretches for that Ostapenko winner, her left knee buckles as her leg hyper-extends.

    Ah. Not for long.

Ostapenko is looking very confident in what is her first Grand Slam semi-final. Youthful exuberance eh?

She's going after Bacsinszky and the tactic gives her two more break points.

Bacsinszky clenches her first when Ostapenko sends a backhand long on the first, but it is the Latvian doing the celebrating moments later when he cracks a forehand winner to break.
