    Muguruza 6-3 6-4 Kuznetsova

Kuznetsova is playing like a stubborn Crystal Maze contestant with seconds running out in the Aztec Zone. You keep going out of pride despite knowing that you're going to get locked in.

But it's 30-30 after an error at the net. Hope for Kuznetsova? Start the fans please?

    No.

A line call goes Muguruza's way and then an error hands the Spaniard game, set and match and a place in her first semi-final since 2015.

There are approved names which you have to give your kids with approved heritage.

The Soviets were very big on rules so there were only a certain amount of names you could give. My mother gave me Martina, when there were no Martinas. Only Martins.

You have to give an approved name but then you can call your kid whatever you want.

A graphic tells me that Venus is returning serve on average of six mph faster than in her last game. She is on it so far.

Ostapenko wastes a second serve opportunity though, not sorting her feet out and only finding the net. Those are the points she needs to push on against if she wants to get this break back. Two points later and it's five-two.

    Williams 4-2 Ostapenko

Shot! Punishing rally from both players ends with Ostapenko hitting a cracking backhand cross court winner from on the baseline, and then a peach of a forehand too.

She is clicking into gear. Martina Navratilova is currently giving an absolute masterclass on the naming conventions in former Soviet states by the way. A BBC Four show coming soon?

Venus fires wide and that's a hold.

Ostapenko is going to go for every ball, no matter what the score. When it goes in, there's really not much you can do. Today's there's not a lot that's gone in, and Venus is playing really well and really smart.

    *Muguruza 6-3 5-4 Kuznetsova

Muguruza's returns are Murray-esque today. Kuznetsova is having to keep the power-up button depressed constantly on her strokes.

However, the Russian holds with a dismissive one-handed forehand crosscourt swipe.

The ball is quite literally in your court now Garbine.

Like Roger Federer yesterday, Venus Williams is flying through her service games. She is moving well, but that's her first real error, lumping a forehand long with pretty much the whole court to go for.

Never you mind. She backs it up with an ace.

    Muguruza 6-3 5-3 Kuznetsova*

Muguruza looks to go 40-0 but then whips a forehand that lands in Buenos Aires after approaching the net. Strange.

Anyway, small blip as she holds and is now a game away from reach the semis.

    This has been quick.

Perhaps it was a touch of nerves. After a shaky opening service game, where she was broken, Ostapenko is back on it, holding and winning a point with a gem of a disguised drop shot en route. Cracking volley from Venus in there too though. She looks formidable.

You feel like Kuznetsova had to change something - Muguruza was in such good rhythm.

Maybe those last few points in the game might have given the Spaniard something to think about.

Venus has been using that body serve very well. The older and wiser you get, the better you get at using it.

You don't get aces that way, but you do get weaker returns.

    Williams 3-0 Ostapenko

Ostapenko was a set and a break down before coming back to win the French Open final so she won't be too affected by that early break, you wouldn't think.

If Venus keeps serving like this though she isn't going to offer many chances for the Latvian. She holds in double quick time, despite one cracking forehand winner from Ostapenko which flew past Venus.

    Muguruza 6-3 4-2 Kuznetsova*

    Best shot of the match?

Kuznetsova executes a sliced backhand from the back of the court that drops just over the net. Good touch.

It's 40-30 on the Muguruza serve - now deuce, as the Spaniard swats a forehand into the net.

The Russian is in control in the next point but looks for a Hollywood ending with a dropshot that's more Dollywood - no offence, Dolly Parton.

    Muguruza holds. That was big.

Court 18 is attempting to host an invitational doubles match between Kim Clijsters / Rennae Stubbs and Tracy Austin / Helena Sukova.

The grounds staff have their work cut out, and the covers have been coming on and off all morning. Whenever they finish their routine, those who are sticking it out in the stands give a little applause.

Tracy Austin doesn't seem too fussed about the disruption. She's been posing for photos in between play.

    *Muguruza 6-3 3-2 Kuznetsova

Muguruza has her first break points of the second set after a Kuznetsova error. She has two opportunities.

The Russian then puts Muguruza on the ropes, before coming into the net to win the point with a deft volley.

    One saved.

However, the Spaniard has a plan. She comes forward as her opponent stays back - an error - and whips a forehand return winner.

    Broken. Badly.
