    *Williams 6-3 1-3 Suarez Navarro

Hello. That's better from Venus. A big forehand is followed by the backhand winner, and she goes 0-30 up.

Suarez Navarro is having none of it. She rescues two points before Williams comes up to the net and hits a backhand volley with pinpoint accuracy onto the baseline. Break point.

And she'll take it with a push out wide that Suarez Navarro can't return.

There is a collective sigh from the French quarter of the media centre as their man Lucas Pouille's hopes end against Diego Schwartzman on Grandstand.

The 5ft 7in Argentine - nickname "peque" ("small") - has played superbly on his way to the last eight, urged on by a large contingent of compatriots in the crowd. "I think I am 30% and they are 70%," he says on court after a 7-6 7-5 2-6 6-2 win.

Williams lofts the ball into the air, giving herself time to move, and Suarez Navarro responds with a beaut of a winner down the line.

    Williams 6-3 0-2 Suarez Navarro*

Williams served up a game of double faults against Maria Sakkari in the third round. Her service game is still a bit off here as she loses sight of the ball toss yet again.

She's moving her feet better though, going deep behind the baseline to keep herself in a fine rally, but eventually she slaps her forehand long. Just the 24 shots in that rally...

Here's deuce, and Williams gets the advantage with a volley. Suarez Navarro isn't giving up that easily, though, and crashes a winner beyond Williams. Back to 40-40.

  5. Murray & Soares march onpublished at 23:19 British Summer Time 3 September 2017

Britain's Jamie Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares continued the defence of their men's doubles title by defeating Marcus Daniell and Marcelo Demoliner in the second round.

Murray and Soares edged a tie-break to take a tight first set and then broke in the eighth game of the second set to win 7-6 (7-4) 6-3.

In the third round, the fourth seeds will face Swede Robert Lindstedt and Jordan Thompson of Australia, who defeated Britain's Ken Skupski and Australian John Millman in round two.

Into the net goes Suarez Navarro, but a mangled, two handed forehand from Williams just about makes it over the net and bounces out of bounds.

A fine forehand winner thuds on the baseline from Williams, but she coughs up yet another double fault - her third of the game - to take it back to deuce.

And another! Consecutive double faults, and it's advantage Suarez Navarro...

  16. Williams saves two break pointspublished at 22:53 British Summer Time 3 September 2017

    Williams 3-2 Suarez Navarro*

An ace out wide is followed up by two nasty double faults from Venus. That ball toss is not right.

Ooh, what was that?! Williams has control for a rally, leaps to meet Suarez Navarro's return - and skews the ball into the net as she attempts an overhead. That hands the Spaniard two break points!

The first is saved as a backhand curls wide, and Williams snaffles a deuce as she pushes her opponent right into the corner of the court.

And there goes the forehand winner. A hold for Venus.

Ooh! That's an almighty backhand down the line from Suarez Navarro, with a whip of the wrists for good measure, to get the first point on the Williams serve.

A fine angled return throws Williams off and she lashes the ball high into the air. In fact, Venus isn't having much fun with the ball toss, and she puts all her frustration into a hammered forehand winner.

Another corker down the line from Suarez Navarro, and we're into deuce.

    BBC Sport at Flushing Meadows

Denis Shapovalov has not just been wowing the fans on Arthur Ashe Stadium this week, he's also been impressive down in the media room.

"I grew up wanting to play tennis. I want to try to change the sport first of all in Canada, but definitely in America. I think I'm making an impact, and hopefully I can continue to do so, because for me the best thing in life is to see kids looking up to you and just aspiring to be like you."

Michael Downey, who recently left his role in charge of the LTA to rejoin Tennis Canada, must think all his Christmases have come at once.
