    Kyrgios 7-5 6-4 1-1 Troicki*

Eeesh, Nick Kyrgios double faults and Viktor Troicki brings up his first break opportunity.

The Australian gets his head back in the game and steers a beautiful backhand into the bottom corner. Deuce.

Kyrgios waits for his moment to pounce...and he holds.

I'll agree to disagree with Mark Woodforde on that...ahem.

I'm baffled. I'm not sure what he's complaining about. It's more about that he didn't secure the service break.

His support are very tense but he could do with them being a bit more relaxed because that transfers to the player.

  4. Murray progresses in doublespublished at 09:33 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2018

Jamie Murray and Brazilian partner Bruno Soares reached the second round of the men's doubles with a three-set win over American duo Frances Tiafoe and Donald Young.

The 2016 champions, who were beaten in the first round in 2017, lost the first set but bounced back to secure a 5-7 6-4 6-4 victory.

    *Kyrgios 7-5 6-4 0-1 Troicki

Nick Kyrgios has the support of the home crowd, certainly, but they're also trying to wind him up. And, to be honest, it's winding me up as well. They just can't keep quiet.

There's a lot of muttering going on, and gesticulating, as Kyrgios brings up his fourth break opportunity of the game.

The Australian is denied and taken back to deuce after a powerful backhand winner from Viktor Troicki.

The game eventually gets away from Kyrgios and the Serbian holds.

    Dimitrov 1-2 McDonald

Erm, what's going on here then?

Mackenzie McDonald, the world number 186 who has won just one Tour match during his fledgling career, has broken third seed Grigor Dimitrov to love.

The 22-year-old American takes an early lead in their second-round match.

This court is far from empty but Kyrgios could start an argument in an empty room.

He has magnetism both as a player and a character. It's hard to take your eyes off him because there's always something happening.

    Kyrgios 7-5 6-4 Troicki

Away from the verbals, Nick Kyrgios brings up three set points.

The Australian makes his opponent over-stretch with a double handed backhand and the second set is in his grasp.

It's been impressive from the Brisbane champ.

    Kyrgios 7-5 5-4 Troicki

This match was always going to be fiery. So far we've had complaints about rowdy fans in the crowd, noisy helicopters and now shoelaces.

Viktor Troicki has to head to his seat mid-game as one of his laces has snapped. The crowd egg him on with a countdown of "10, 9, 8...".

The Serbian goes on to hold and Nick Kyrgios takes to his seat and mutters about the incident VERY loudly.

And now, with Kyrgios on serve, Troicki is having a tete-a-tete with the chair umpire over a line call.

    Dimitrov 1-0 McDonald

We are under way on Rod Laver Arena.

Grigor Dimitrov, decked out head-to-toe in pink, opens on serve and holds to 15.

The boys in pink (I won't name the sponsor) have been very successful so far: Dimitrov, Kyrgios, Edmund, Nadal.

    Candy-coloured confidence.

  11. Could Kyrgios win the title?published at 09:15 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2018

    Mark Woodforde
12-time Grand Slam doubles champion on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra at Melbourne Park

I think Nick Kyrgios could win it because of the change in his demeanour. He understands what it takes to go deep into Grand Slams. It's not one-off performances but consistent performances that are needed.

    *Kyrgios 7-5 4-3 Troicki

Now it's Viktor Troicki's turn for an easy hold.

The Serbian sees it out with an ace to close the gap on his opponent. He's still a break behind, though.

  13. Kyrgios outlook has changedpublished at 09:10 Greenwich Mean Time 17 January 2018

    Mark Woodforde
12-time Grand Slam doubles champion on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra at Melbourne Park

I spent a little bit of time with Kyrgios in December and witnessed him on the practice court and also enjoyed some meals with him and a few others. I was really impressed with his demeanour.

He seems to have a very different outlook now. He has matured and recognised what he needs to do to become a great champion.

    Kyrgios 7-5 4-2 Troicki*

Another comfortable serve for 17th seed Nick Kyrgios.

He recovers from a double fault at 40-0 to delicately volley over and take a 4-2 lead in the second set.

Nick Kyrgios is now annoyed at the helicopter which is flying directly over the Hisense Arena.

The Australian is back on serve and starts with an ace.

For those unable to squeeze into Hisense Arena, the best bet is trying to nab a seat in Garden Square. Glasses chink, the smell of fried food fills the air and the hummer of chatter battles with the big screen.

With Nick Kyrgios in action it’s the closest Melbourne gets to watching Andy Murray from Henman Hill, although the applause is muted when he takes the first set as most people are concentrating on the serious business of refuelling.

    *Kyrgios 7-5 2-1 Troicki

Nick Kyrgios decides to have a word with chair umpire James Keothavong about the man who was videoing him from the crowd.

"It's happened three times now," complains Kyrgios, who suggests people have been posting these videos on Facebook.

I know Kyrgios likes a whinge, but you feel like he's well within his rights to raise this issue if it's distracting the players.

    Kyrgios 7-5 2-0 Troicki*

Ok, now Nick Kyrgios is unhappy - but rightly so.

A gobby man in the crowd is singing whilst the Australian is waiting to serve - and it looks like the same man has got his camera out to film Kyrgios' reaction.

    Very unnecessary.

The 17th seed doesn't seem rattled by the interruption, he holds for a 2-0 lead.
