    Evert also lost her first three Grand Slam finals before making the breakthrough at Roland Garros in 1974.

    So after three consecutive defeats in finals, Simona Halep is just the second Romanian woman to win a Grand Slam, following Virginia Ruzici in 1978.

    She is the 49th woman to win a Grand Slam title in the Open era.
