The queue to get into Court One, where Jo Konta is getting her French Open campaign under way? Nope. This line is for the water machine.

Temperatures are a sweat-inducing 28C here in Paris and the locals are handing over Euros at the refreshment bars at a ridiculous rate.

For those not going for a used bottle of 'Jus du Conseil de Paris', ice creams are the most popular form of cooling mechanism.

Yulia Putintseva is 71 places below her opponent in the rankings.

Putintseva enjoyed a run to the quarter-finals here in 2016, eventually falling to Serena Williams.

She has never lost in the first round at the French Open but Konta is the highest-ranked opponent she has faced at this stage.

    Konta 0-0 Putintseva

Johanna Konta has slipped down the rankings since her memorable run to the Wimbledon semi-finals last summer, having reached just one quarter-final since then.

Seeded 22nd in Paris, the 27-year-old Briton is looking to secure her first main draw win at Roland Garros. She has has fallen in the first round for the last three years.

"People assume I don't have a great relationship with the French Open because of my results in the past two years," she said.

"I feel I'm playing good on the clay right now and I back myself in every match I play so I consider myself a threat."

Latvian pocket rocket Jelena Ostapenko sent shockwaves around Paris last year when she beat current world number one Simona Halep to lift the French Open trophy.

Ostapenko, who was unseeded and ranked 47th in the world at the time, had never won a Tour-level title before and was playing in only her eighth Grand Slam.

She starts her defence against Kat Kozlova of Ukraine later today.

Meanwhile, the King of Clay begins his campaign on Monday in the final match on Philippe Chatrier.

Rafael Nadal, who is looking for his 11th title at Roland Garros, plays Italian Simone Bolelli - the world number 130.

    French Open 2018

There are eight lucky losers in the French Open first round...and one not-so-lucky loser.

A place in the main draw against Bernard Tomic was up for grabs after Australian Nick Kyrgios withdrew through injury.

It should have gone to India's world number 183 Prajnesh Gunneswaran. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old had already left Paris and gone to play a Challenger event in Italy.

He would have taken home a minimum of £34,000 even if he lost the first round match, but now it looks like Argentina's Marco Trungelliti will get the spot against Tomic instead.
