    Bang! Whizz! Hiss! Rod Laver Arena isn't the only place in Melbourne where there are fireworks tonight.

    In the distance you can hear faint gunpowder explosions as the Australia Day fireworks are let off in the Docklands area - the other side of town.

    There was a time when the display happened closer to Melbourne Park, with play memorably having to be stopped once or twice because of the noise.

    Osaka is a little tense first up, slipping to 0-30, but she's soon level as Kvitova whirls successive forehands long.

    Again, the errors come off the Kvitova forehand, and from 0-30 down, Osaka holds with ease.

    When Osaka was down in the second set she was able to lift her game. She is moving very well and is just a little bit more powerful than Kvitova. This type of Naomi Osaka is very tough to beat.

    Big point for Kvitova, and she steps in to slash a winner of her own cross-court. Osaka challenges, but she knows it's in - and indeed it is.

    40-30 - but it's deuce thanks to a superb, brutal return from Osaka.
