It was an intriguing opening game to this match - and it certainly ensured the crowd were engaged from the off.

Champion stuff from Novak Djokovic to ace is way to safety, but Centre Court is appreciating Kwon Soon-woo’s early efforts here. They’re doing their best to get right behind the underdog.

  2. Kwon holdspublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    *Djokovic 1-1 Kwon

That's a very good body serve from Kwon, drawing the error out of Djokovic, and an ace out wide wraps up a hold.

  3. Deuce on Kwon servepublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Djokovic 1-0 Kwon*

A second serve ace from Kwon completely wrongfoots Djokovic, who can only watch the ball spin past his outstretched racquet, before the South Korean slips into a double fault.

Kwon gets to game point before a loose backhand forces procedings to deuce.

    *Bjorkland 1-6 0-3 Jabeur

Perhaps Ons Jabeur has got a lunch reservation at some of the finest restaurants Wimbledon Village has to offer as she ploughs full-steam ahead at the start of the second set.

    Norrie 6-0 4-3 Andujar*

Norrie has won 68% of points behind the second serve in this match and that helps him to a hold to 15. It's only been 55 minutes of on-court action but this match is flying along, already in the eighth game of the second set.

    Wallop.

Back-to-back aces from Novak Djokovic and he's on the board.

  8. Deuce on Djokovic servepublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    *Djokovic 0-0 Kwon

Long goes a Kwon forehand, handing Djokovic a couple of game points, and the defending champion swings an ace down the T.

Or does he? There's a late call of out - so late, in fact, that the umpire had already called the game in Djokovic's favour - but the technology confirms it, before Kwon plays a delightful passing shot to keep things rolling.

Huh. Djokovic angles a backhand down the line, misses, and from 40-15 he finds himself at deuce.

    *Norrie 6-0 3-3 Andujar

Pablo Andujar does enough to recover from 15-30 down on his own serve to hold that game, with Norrie sending a forehand wide.

    Djokovic v Kwon

Kwon Soon-woo is 72 places below Novak Djokovic in the world rankings.

He lost in the first round of the Surbiton Trophy - the Challenger event held in the UK - and also lost his opener at 's-Hertogenbosch a week later.

He reached the second round at Wimbledon last year, besting qualifier Daniel Masur before losing to Dominik Koepfer in five close sets.

Kwon did claim a notable victory at this year's Australian Open, beating rising star Holger Rune in the first round.

    Djokovic v Kwon

It is the first time since 2018 that Novak Djokovic has not won any of the past three Grand Slams.

Djokovic did not play in any of the grass-court tournaments in the UK, bar one exhibition match at Hurlingham Club.

Mind you, he won that in pretty convincing fashion, coming past Canadian world number nine Felix Auger Aliassime 6-2 6-1.

  17. Djokovic aiming to match Sampraspublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 27 June 2022

    Djokovic v Kwon

Big smiles from Novak Djokovic as he makes his way onto Centre Court to cheers and applause.

The top seed is bidding to match Pete Sampras with seven Wimbledon titles.

Only Roger Federer, with eight, has won more than Sampras, who also won four titles in a row between 1997 and 2000.

"As a seven, eight-year-old boy I've dreamt of winning Wimbledon and becoming number one," said Djokovic.

"Pete Sampras winning his first Wimbledon was the first tennis match I ever saw on the TV."
