    Berankis 0-0 Nadal

Ricardas Berankis got to the second round thanks to a three-set win over American Sam Querey, a player who reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2017.

Berankis won the toss and told Nadal to serve first. Game on.

    Broady 6-2 4-6 0-6 5-5 Schwartzman*

Liam Broady is really attacking the Schwartzman serve. He wants the break, not the tie-break. But goes inches long with a forehand at 15-30. He challenges - it's close, but it's out. 30-30.

    *Dart 6-4 3-6 1-3 Pegula

Dart hits a forehand with feeling down the line and then follows it up with a beautiful cross-court winner! 0-30.

Ooooh, Pegula sends a choppy forehand long and Dart has three break points!

Some on-point serving from Pegula brings it to deuce, but another cross-court forehand winner from Dart creates another chance.

Fourth break point of the game. She takes it after a double fault! Not over yet.

Fantastic from Liam Broady, a superb cross-court passing forehand seals a very impressive hold of serve.

Almost as impressive as his beard, which must be one of the magnificently sculpted examples of facial hair in sport. Not a strand out of kilter.

  5. 'I woke up and was already 1-4 down'published at 15:56 British Summer Time 30 June 2022

    Berankis v Nadal

Ricardas Berankis is making his ninth appearance at Wimbledon but has never got past this second-round phase and this will be his first match on one of the show courts.

“It's always special to play at Wimbledon,” Berankis told ATPTour.com. “It's where tennis started. England, grass courts. It's a very special feeling. To be able to play in these tournaments against players [like] Rafa is a dream come true.

"I'm really looking forward to the match. Rafa’s season has been unbelievable. The Grand Slams, in Australia and Paris. It's really impressive what he's doing."

Berankis played Nadal for the first time earlier this year in a hard court tournament in Melbourne with the Spaniard winning 6-2 7-5, and the Lithuanian, 106th in the world, expected another difficult challenge.

“It's going to be tough," he added. "When you play against the top guys, the speed is different, they don’t make mistakes. When we played in Australia, I stepped on court and I woke up and was already 1-4 down. You need to be on it from the beginning as you won’t get gifts.”

  6. Pegula two breaks uppublished at 15:55 British Summer Time 30 June 2022

    Dart 6-4 3-6 0-3 Pegula*

Jessica Pegula holds firm to move two up in the third set.

Harriet Dart has just lost her cool a couple of times in this set but takes a moment to compose herself before serving.

But she's really up against it as she sends a forehand long to bring up a break point for Pegula.

This could be a fatal blow to Dart's chances. Oh dear, she nets with a backhand and Pegula creates clear daylight in the decider.

    *Broady 6-2 4-6 0-6 4-5 Schwartzman

The problem for Liam Broady is that he's not troubling the Schwartzman serve at the minute - two straight holds to love for the Argentinian.

Now up to Broady to serve to stay in the match - he lost the second set serving at 4-5 and can't afford to do the same here.

So to a final set for Harriet Dart, or "H" as she's called be one vocal member of the crowd (presumably a fan of Line of Duty).

She's attempting to become the third British woman into the third round today.

At 30-30 in the first game, Dart appears to have won the point with a cute drop shot but Jessica Pegula gets to it and outlasts her when they then trade groundstrokes.

Dart nets on the next point to hand over the break and slams her racquet into the grass, earning herself a code violation for racquet abuse.

    Berankis v Nadal

Three weeks ago Rafael Nadal was on crutches following make-or-break treatment on a chronic foot injury with his Wimbledon participation in doubt.

The Spaniard, 36, underwent radio-wave therapy on the nerve in his left foot earlier this month after winning his 14th French Open. The procedure seems to have been a success as Nadal was given a serious run-around by Argentinian debutant Francisco Cerundolo in the first round.

But, on his first appearance at the Championships since 2019, Nadal came through in four sets, 6-4 6-3 3-6 6-4 in three hours and 33 minutes.

“After three years of not playing here I’m very happy to be back,” he said. “The last three years I didn’t put a foot on a grass court, so it always takes a while in my first match. Every day is a test and this was an important test.

“At the beginning of the tournament and under the circumstances I arrived here, the victory is the most important thing. Everyone knows I had to do some things on my foot, but the most important thing is I am in Wimbledon 2022 and I won my first match.”

Nadal v Ricardas Berankis is next up on Centre Court.

    Dart 6-4 3-6 0-1 Pegula*

Harriet Dart wallops a forehand into the net and it's 30-40 in the American's favour in the opening game of the third.

This is a big point - and Pegula gets it as Dart nets with a weak backhand.

The Brit shows her disgust with that latest effort and duly receives a warning from the chair umpire.
