  1. Eating protein in the morning...published at 12:15 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

    Quote Message

What I’d recommend for you guys is having a bit of protein in the morning – I find that offsets hunger until at least lunchtime. Having two or three boiled eggs and a bowl of porridge, you’ll find you’ll be totally full until lunch. If you skip breakfast, you’ll find by 10.30 you want to snack on chocolate bars. Carbohydrates for me are the absolute devil – if you’re not exercising, it’s all going to turn into fat.

  2. Question: How do you cope with the pressures of competition?published at 12:13 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

    Quote Message

I hate competing. I used to get nervous a lot. Everything's on the line. I went to get hypnotised and it worked. I get less nervous now.

  5. How do you manage the expectation of a nation?published at 12:11 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

    Quote Message

If you’re a Mo Farah and the whole country expects you to win, it really can take over in a bad way. Every day we’re preparing for that one race that’s going to get you to your goal, but as an athlete you have to be really cutthroat in that you can’t let other things affect your performance. It would be such a waste otherwise.

Lesley McKenna: "Eat wholesome food that makes you feel better. And do yoga."

Robbie Renwick: "What I find helps is having quite a bit of protein in the morning, such as boiled eggs. That can offset hunger until lunchtime. If you skip breakfast you'll find by 10.30 you want to snack on chocolate bars. It's being aware of what you eat. Carbohydrates are the devil. If you are doing no exercise at all, stay away from biscuits and sugary drinks."

If I sat at home and watched TV all day, it’d just feel wrong. I still go to parties and whatnot all the time, but you’ve still got to eat clean. If you sat and ate junk food all day, you’d get on the bike the next day and feel lazy. So, just eat right and keep active...

  9. Question: What are the painful times?published at 12:03 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

    Quote Message

There are lots in snow sports because you fall over a lot! You get very real, instant feedback if things go wrong, and they go wrong all the time. Don’t be scared to let things go wrong because that’s how you really learn. As long as you reflect on why and try not to do the same mistake a second time then you’re going to be stronger. The best advice I could give is aim to fail – but aim to learn from that, and then you’re going to be successful.

  10. What are the three main ingredients to success?published at 12:01 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

    Quote Message

You’ve got to have fun with what you’re doing. If not, you’re simply not going to be good at what you're doing. If your parents are pushing you into something you’re not going to enjoy it.Whether it’s breakdancing on a BMX or swimming hundreds of lengths, there are so many fantastic sports out there – don’t just follow suit and go into football, give other sports a go!

Robbie Renwick, Commonwealth gold medalist swimmer

  11. Question: Why did you choose BMX?published at 12:00 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

    Quote Message

"In the BMX world you get rewarded for being different. That's why I chose it. You don't gave to follow anybody else."

Lesley McKenna: "The fact that I'm still working in snowsports, having had a long and successful career, is a big achievement and I still love it.

Robbie Renwick: "Last summer our 4x200m relay team got gold at the World Championships. The previous year at the Commonwealth Games I missed the gold medal and I felt I had to prove myself. The icing on the cake was beating the American team. It was priceless to see the look on their faces."
